Hey guys
Bought left 4 dead today after much thought, and now i wish i hadn't since about 5 today i've trying to update steam but the idiot thing wont finish. Now i've seen it get up to 33%, but it just closes(disappears) and i dont actually know wat it gets to... I've re-installed it now, and left it to update, after a whole movie its still on 2%. I restarted it, now its stuck on 19%. I'll kill it haha. Why is everything such a mission wen you pay for games???

Is this normal or is there something wrong?

Did you install the Steam client from disc? I had a similar issue when I installed the Orange Box. I eventually grabbed a more recent client from the Steam site, and its been smooth sailing ever since.

No bought it on disc, i'll try download the latet client tonight.

I downloaded it from the web, a 1.5mb file? All i could find, but its stuck on 37% now. Goes terribly slow, wen i look and my network usage it goes up in a few hundred bytes.
Could it be Firewalls, block ports etc?

The client installer seems to be a stub installer. I have always found that the client itself can take some time to update. Game updates and downloads are pretty quick for me though.

Figured it out, my ISP blocks any port known to man. So frustrating cause they wont unblock any either. Cant even log onto windows live in GTA4 unless i disconnect from my network and plug in my cell phone and use it as a modem. Any rules or laws on wat an ISP can block?

I don't know about the legalities, but you should look in to changing your ISP. There's not much S in the IP.

ISP = Emburst. They pretty decent i like them, R550 for uncapped, 512 line. Its worth it, even though it uses the hole antenna-to-high site system i can still play COD4 online on a good day. They claim they not blocking ports and have been saying that since i've been with them, but anything that requires a "non-normal" port i have issues. Neotels in the area:) just waiting on prices for next weeks neoflex release.
