NOTE: Dealership bought from is not the manufacturing/servicing dealer

I bought a vehicle at the beginning of November 2017 from a large dealer. 2016 - low mileage. The dealer wanted to charge close on R7,500 OTR fees, which I got down by some and purchased the vehicle.

It almost immediately had to go back, they sprayed that black crap underneath that wasn't mixed properly, and was dripping all over the garage. Besides that, the canopy key didn't work - and the windscreen wiper bottle was empty. So for their inflated OTR fees, they obviously didn't check the vehicle properly.

End of November on a long trip I noticed the vehicle struggled to go into 5th gear - again - off it went to the dealer for two days (a whole other story about how they stuffed me around with this).

Got the vehicle back, gearbox apparently repaired under warranty - no problems.

Beginning of January, and the vehicle starts making funny sounds again - contact the dealership again, and they want me to take off time again to bring it into them. (I'm paid per hour - and this is now the third time I'm having to take it in)

Fortunately - the sound went away - unfortunately, it was back again at the end of February. Contacted the dealer again to arrange to bring it in, they said I must wait for the service which was this week. Just got a call from the dealer doing the service (R3800) - the wheel bearings are going, that's what I'm hearing.

Considering this vehicle is within 6 months of purchasing, and this problem was reported to the dealer 2 months after purchase - am I covered by the CPA, as this "part" can be considered wear and tear, although there needs to be some reasonable consideration when you buy a vehicle that certain things will last.

Apologies man.

I believe you have a right to return the vehicle within 6 months, under certain conditions of course, what those conditions are, I don't know.
If you can prove the car was sold to you with defects then you may have a strong case, to request a refund or repair.

Wheel bearings going on a 2016 vehicle?!?!

That sounds very suspect.

Wheel bearings on a 2016 model, low mileage car indicates factory fault or serious abuse. I would fight them to have it repaired and then take the car for a full inspection by Dekra or AA to make sure everything is fine.

Definitely this... I would tell the dealership to get fscked and they must pay to replace those things...

Vehicle was bought from a different dealership (Toyota) - vehicle is a Chev Utility. (28,500km as it stands)

The Toyota "manager" says its not their problem - vehicle had a 1 month warranty.

6 month warranty as far as I'm aware with CPA....

I could be wrong though.

Well we'll find out soon enough - going to refer it to the ombudsman.

Worst is - I'm selling the damn car.

TBH, this is what I would suggest as well. Pay the R3800 and sell it. As you are paied by the hour, you are loosing more than this already.

R3800 is just for the service - wheel bearing quote outstanding.

Was selling it anyway as we found out my wife is pregnant, and unfortunately my "cheap" daily won't do anymore.

Actually considering buying one of this as a cheap daily, but now I am having second thoughts..

I had a game when I bought the vehicle, I'd count them on the way home - got to 38 on my 32km trek :p I'm pretty sure this is just bad luck, my issue is the selling dealerships attitude.

R3800 for the service? What are they doing? Gold plating the engine?

Services aren't cheap these days :p Apparently its a major service.

Good news though, just got off the phone with Reeds - they might be covering it under warranty, they'll confirm tomorrow - the person I spoke to earlier said it wouldn't be covered... but - the service advisor said wheel bearings are covered 3yrs, 80,000km.

Ahhh well then you might just get very lucky..

Even a major service on my car is only like R2500.. :|
