Takealot and Amazon's big fakes problem

Online marketplaces like Takealot and Amazon are dealing with a significant problem of knock-offs and counterfeit products being sold on their platforms as genuine.

Unscrupulous merchants exploit the marketplaces' features to sell knock-offs and counterfeit goods under the same listings as authentic products.

The most annoying thing that happened to me is that I once bought brand new stolen goods on takealot. I ordered a few sensibo wifi smart air con controllers and couldn't get them to work. I contacted the company's support and after a bit of interrogation on how and where I got them they said that they had been stolen and their serial numbers had been permanently blocked. Apparently people steal things at the post office/customs and resale them on takealot.

I could never understood why none of the filters worked properly on my Chemex which was a gift from my wife and why I can't master it. I asked my wife if I can please see the receipt as I want to check the size as it doesn't make sense. She ordered it from takealot and the sneaky bastard called it CHEMEX Style Pour-Over.

Yeah, it's a fake. She would never have known.

I bought what was advertised as a Geekvape tank. Only to get some other brand but it still looked like the pictures on site. I reported it to Takealot and noted it on the review. Last time I checked it has not changed and it was still for sale.

Takealot does not care as long as they get their cut of the sale.

The problem is not fakes, but the price of fakes. Most People don't mind fakes and therefor they buy on Temu or Shein, but at a quarter of the price.
