I dont know if this is a software issue or game section but move it to where it must be..ok right this is my problem.

I run vista ultimate 32bit,the processor a HT not dual core.
I am trying to run a game manhunt.exe but i am getting dep error.
So the only solutions i see are a few solutions but they all maybe's:(
So i tried this solution:
Run as admin and run in compatible xp mode....did not work:(

So next was DEP
Disable DEP in Vista:

1. Click Start
2. Click All Programs
3. Click Accessories
4. Right Click on Command Prompt
5. Left click on Run as Administrator
6. Click the Allow button if it asks you for permission
7. Type or copy and paste this into the command prompt window:

bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff

But left it as i thought it was a bit to risky..So never tried this one:D

Right next on the list and last option was this
As a vista user with no experience in hex editing I thought i'd give this a go but not get my hopes up. Surprisingly enough I actually got this to work.
Firstly I downloaded XVI32, a free hex editor. Its small and fairly well lay out.
Once I had downloaded that all I had to do was unzip it and it was ready to go.
Next I moved the manhunt.exe file I was trying to modify into the same folder the editor was in so I could modify it properly.
Then I opened the file and a whole bunch of numbers came up where there were blank boxes before and after a bit of research I found out what they represented and stuff.
Then I went to the address tab at the top and clicked "goto" (alternately press ctrl+g).
Then I selected the hexadecimal option and left "go mode" as absolute.
Then, in the box underneath hexadecimal I typed 08DE.
This took me to a box containing 6A (sounding familiar)
From there I just typed in 2A, saved the file and exited the editor.
Then I moved the file back to the game directory and it worked!

Now i tried this one and did everything exactly everything to the T...guess what it never worked...:(

Is there anyway i can make this work in vista,I always wanted to play man hunt

D/l latest patch for the game. The game contains a poorly programmed jump that is pointing to a data section.

Forget the hex mission....the dude who wrote those instructions has zero knowledge of whats wrong/hex editing.

Highly unlikely, but bad RAM could cause a similar effect.

You can somehow exclude certain progs from DEP afaik. Either way, you either have to fix the buggy code or disable DEP....no other options.

So d/l patch and after that google for "disable DEP".

I hate Vista :D
But anyway
Right Click My Computer -> Properties -> Advance System Settings -> Advance -> Performance -> DEP

Choose the first option Or choose the second option and exclude the game.
I usually setup Vista with DEP completely disabled.

But is dep not a security feature we need in vista,or can i disable it and rely on avg to get those nastiest:(

Actually the game programmer should stop writing buggy code then DEP would not throw a hissy-fit so often.

I use Server 2003 (No DEP), and my installation lasts me around 6 months. I use it for Gaming,Web Designing, Video Converting, Storage, and everything else you can think of.
After 6 months it goe's down to XP speeds (Fresh Install)

So DEP is not required for the average user.
A good Firewall & Antivirus is all thats needed.
Use Eset Nod32 or Kaspersky. IMO avg is crap. Most of our PC Corruption/Virus cases usually has AVG installed. Picks up the virus, but fails to clean it, or something like that.

So i can deactivate dep forever, tis one more service down for vista, thats a gain of 0.003% in memory resource:rolleyes: .

I don't think so. DEP is mostly hardware based on the intels. I doubt that you'll get any performance boost by disabling it.

I think DEP is disabled by default for 32 bit things on x64...not sure though.

will do some testing quick.
btw havoc caN i send you the exe and you tweak it a bit.:)
Sorry bru...not much I can do. Somewhere in the code the programmer did something dodgy and windows is flagging it as such. Even with the source code, it would still be a near impossible mission to find the bug.

Grab latest patch & google for disabling DEP.
