Problem with laptop sound

hi guys, whenever i play a song on my laptop through both itunes or winamp the sound goes mute for a fraction of a second and returns back to normal, this happens for every song i play. I have installed the latest sound card drivers for my laptop and looked all other the internet for a solution. Does anyone know what i should try next?

Check crossfading (or rather un-tick)

Have you disabled the sound card's power saving mode?

How do you do that? i went to power options and its not there? i'm using windows 7.

That happened to me years ago too. Can't recall how i solved though. Did you install any new software? Codecs?

If it's a Realtek sound card, there should be an icon in the system tray.

theres no option in system tray for realtek.

Does it happens when playing the same track? How it plays when playing the same track from external device (USB stick)?

Sounds more like hard drive latency to me. How big is your music library?
