Problem with other forums.

Hi,
I have a problem which haunts me with just about every forum out there: It refuses to let me remain logged in longer than like 5 seconds, rendering me unable to post anything. Its not a problem with my browser or anything because if I use my laptop elsewhere on another connection it works perfectly. No problems at all.
I'm using WebAfrica if that makes any difference.

Any idea's as how to remedy this problem?
 
Is it only happening with other forums, not with MyBroadband? I'm honestly not sure what could cause this on the ISP/Line side, short of your IP changing but I don't know all that much there.

Have you tried a different browser like Opera (presuming you use IE) just to make sure, anything really that isn't based one the one you normally use?

Oh, and yeah, only forums I dont have an issue with is this one, and pcformat.

Sounds like a cookie problem. Make sure you can accept them and have clicked on the "remember me" block.
 
Nope. Its a problem with my connection. I'm pretty sure of that. The fact that it only does it on THIS connection surely indicates that?
 
Had the same problem - I just click on the box next the the log on feature. Remember me/keep me logged on.

Else I don't know.
 
Not it either.

PHPBB forums give me an "invalid session ID" error. Whilst IPB boards give me nothing, just log me out.
 
Since he only has this problem on a certain internet connection and not others does seem like it's a problem with the connection.

All I can think of is trying to rule out one or the other by either trying a comletely different browser or a different PC/laptop to see if it's still happening on the connection that seems to be giving trouble.

Hopefully someone who knows definitively what's going on pops in to help.

Personally since it doesn't happen with all sites on that connection I don't think it's the connection, but rather a setting on your side somewhere.
 
It happens regardless of what PC I use. Whether it be my desktop (uses win xp) or my laptop (uses suse 10). Also totally regardless of what browser I use.
 
Maybe your modem is constantly bailing and reconnecting transparently without you noticing?

Maybe try using you cellphone as a connection.

Weird that both forums that don't give problems are SA hosted. Maybe try getting a mates ISP account to try.
 
Did you check the sites simultaneously? Maybe the connection bailed between the two sites, causing you to get different IPs?

Wait a bit (5 min) and then recheck the sites. Should be the same IP.
 
Try using a transparent proxy to browse.

cache.saix.co.za on port 8080 if you're using a SAIX account...

If you're using IS or Verizon, then I don't know. But they should have one.

I am also having this problem. I also use WebAfrica. I am on the SAIX 10G package. My IP address changes constantly according to http://www.ipaddress.com/ and http://www.myipaddress.com. I tried the SAIX proxy - cache.saix.co.za on port 8080 and this solves my problems with staying logged in on many different sites. I am on 384K DSL with a Mecer 4 port ADSL router, could my modem be the issue?
 
The problem is caused by SAIX's transparent proxy. When the forum checks your IP it should get your machine's IP, but is probably getting the proxy's. Thus your cookie doesn't match and you get logged out. Defining a proxy address fixes that problem.

It's not your modem, it is SAIX.
