Problem with PC ports

I've got two sound out ports right, one at the front of the pc, and one at the back. Both are onboard. I've got my speakers pluggged in at the back, but I've found that when I plug headphones or something into the plug at the front, the ones at the back cut off. But if I try this on another pc I can hear sound coming thru the speakers AND Headphones?! how do I fix it on pc #1 so that sound comes out both

it may be the one pc is in serial and the other in parallel. open the box and see how they connect to the board. A simple rewire may solve the problem

depends on the motherboard. Some only alow one jack to work at a time . Either front or back

consider yourself lucky lots or motherboards can use only the front or back...

anything slightly modern should cut off the rear outputs when plugging in headphones/speakers into the front ports.

By design, that is how it is meant to work...no fault there.

Dunno what is up with the older pc, but it doesnt comply to spec.

Okay just took another look.. sound's actually coming out of both... EXCEPT it's coming VERY VERY VEEEEEEEERY quietly out the speakers, so quietly that you have to strain to hear it but the point is then it's not totally cutting it off

there are some jumpers / wires you'd have to strip to fix this, alternatively get your soldring iron ready and short some points on the pcboard on the front end to fix this - be prepaired to loose warranty on your parts studying the motherboard manual will reveal how to change this. - if you do proceed - you're being bloody daft IMO.

your headphone socket is ment to shut off the speakers - like most hi-fi's. They are not ment for extra speakers - the impedance is too low for unpowered speakers, and too high for lineout and will most likely destort on amplified speakers (however not badly).

LabAnimal, you've lost me. SOldering iron work = too much effort I think worst come to worst I'll just get a spliter and use it on the front OR back

well then i'm happy you won't do the deed and possibly murder your motherboard / soundcard. a splitter will do the job just fine from the back - i seriously doubt you want any other cables dangling out the front of your pc except your headphones.
