Hi guys,

I used to be able to play BF2 on my PC wit no problems but I recently had to do a full reinstall of windows so I no have the latest drivers etc for my nVidia GeForce 6600, but after I have selected my spawn point and kit, as I start to play, the graphics go completely crazy, It almost looks like im looking through a kaleidascope (no other way to describe it) and I can't see anything really. What is annoying me is that it used to work but now it won't yet, I can play quake 4  . The game is also terribly slow when this happens and it happens every time I try to play. I've also got the 1.3 patch, Directx 9c, and latest nvidia drivers and have reinstalled the game multiple times but to no avail.

Have you installed your chipset drivers aswell?

Um I'm not really sure what you mean, I'm presuming I have since I can play a game like quake 4  . I'll quickly try put in its cd and reinstall whatever is on it. Sorry I'm a bit of a n00b when it comes to hardware. :D

Ok I put the cd in and it said do I want to install "older drivers" so I said no, cause I have newer drivers. What is the difference between a "chipset driver" and the "nvidia drivers"

Stop dude :)

Give us your motherboard manufacturer and motherboard model number : for instance, you've got a MSI motherboard, the model 1KH65. Then I'll help you to get the chipset drivers, if you don't know what motherboard you have, try and read it in the motherboard manual, it should be on the front :D

Ok im not sure where to see which motherboard I got but the manual says its a:
GA-7DX(R)+/7DXE

by Gigabyte, thanks for the help guys I really appreciate it :)

Okay you will have to try and check the manual to see exactly what model your motherboard is the GA-7DX is a motherboard and the 7DXE, I need to know which one of the two you have, try and check quickly

7DXE, just saw it on the tag from the computer shop. Hope thats it

I have and AMD 64bit 3000+ if that helps narrow it down :D

Okay don't worry I checked gigabytes website, all the 7DX motherboards have the same chipset, are you running windows XP?

Okay this is your motherboard on the gigabyte website, it seems windows Xp does have your chipset drivers, so let's think what else it could be.
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/...otherboard&ProductID=1363&ProductName=GA-7DXE
Go to start, click on run and type in dxdiag, press enter, click on display after everything loaded and test direct3d, tell me if the same happens, do you see the kaleidoscope there too?

nope it works perfect, btw the same thing is happening with championship manager 2006 if I watch a game.

I saw people had similar problems with something called "fast write" but I have not got it in my bios settings, so I can't turn it off.

This is really strange, I've never come across it yet, but there's always a first time right?

If directd3d works, it's not your agp port that;s screwed and your graphics card isn't busted, the only thing I'm thinking of now is double checking the nvidia display settings, make sure everything is default and test the games again, set everything application controlled, enable trillnear filtering, and put image settings to quality, let vsync also be application controlled, check your refresh rate aswell, see if the refresh rate isn't too high in the game, or check if it doesn't change the refresh rate once the game loads, make the game refresh rate the same as your desktop.

nope no luck, this is so messed up. I finally get adsl so I can play it online.... and now I can't even play it. I've checked tons of forums and nothing helps :-(

Yep those are the drivers I have, I'll be back in at 6, gotta take my dog to the vet. Hopefully someone will come along who had and solved this puzzling problem. Just tried again a minute ago, same story. as it goes in game, the first screenshot is fine, but as soon as thing move it goes nuts. My specs, 512mb ram, 120gb HDD, AMD 3000+ proccesor, XFX 256mb Geforce 6600.

I'll try that, I don't think it is restricted to BF2 as it does it in Championship manager 2006, it is really strange, I don't know what to do now, I have installed various versions of my video drivers and that isnt helping. I'm tempted to do a reinstall except the amount of trouble and time that takes is rediculous so I dunno, will try a windows repair and see if it fixes anything.

OK , I have seen this problem with some of the latest drivers on 6600..

Go back a few versions and dont use the Beta Nvidia drivers. Also try www.tweaksrus.com for different driver versions ..
