Argh - help. I have not been able to download mail today at all, although I am able to send messages. I get the message: the pop3 server you specified cannot be found. I am using pop3.telkomsa.net and have tried pop3telkomsa.net. Can this have anything to do with the crap / cap? How do I check if I am close to or have reached the limit?[V]

Finally, miraculously, my mail started working again and it stopped complaining about pop3.telkomsa.net. But instead of receiving the 20 mails I'm waiting for, I received one. I ran cmd.exe earlier so I know Telkom's servers are up - is anyone else experiencing the same problems?

Hi AM

I just received the following email. Hope it serves some purpose…

Are you aware that Telkomsa.net has e-mail problems for about a week and a half (listen to the inane message on 0860-100-553), in that most of the time e-mail cannot be accessed, and the rest of the time the e-mail downloads extremely slowly?

I (and surely thousands of telkomsa.net users) are effectively barred from my e-mail, and am suffering serious inconvenience and financial cost.

Telkom seem unable to deal with the problem, and are not prepared to discuss when the problem will be resolved, or what they plan to do to fix it and prevent a recurrence.
You could call 012-311-6957 and ask there for more info.

Hi RPM

Thanks so much for the reply. Phew - that's ludicrous, email is critical to most businesses these days. I think I went up for about 10 minutes today. How frustrating.

Cheers

Just went to register at M&G to read that article Peopod posted.
90 minutes later, I still haven't received the registration confirmation mail to my Telkomsa account.
So I just registered again using my overseas address, and presto, I had the registration confirmation mail within literally 20seconds.

Just stating facts here.

Hi AM

Had the exact same problem with my mail. The problem started roundabout 23:00 on the 30th of September and was only sorted out today after about 18:00. In other words I lost a whole working day. I just downloaded my mail for the second time since 18:00 and I'm still getting messages from this afternoon. It appears all email is stuck in a queue on Telkom's server. I have never in my life seen such a pathetic service.

Solution to your guys problem - open a free web based e-mail account like www.webmail.co.za or www.hotmail.com - its a lot more reliable than Telkom's e-mail

or run your own mail server at home/place of business. Register a domain and make use of the one of the dynamic DNS providers listed in earlier threads. The only problem that arises when you're capped ... you can't update your IP :/ So, if you're a heavy user and can't get extra accounts then this option won't be viable. If only we had static IP's - telskum?
