Is anyone else having problems in PTA east today?

My line keeps on dropping every 5 minutes and I've tried 2 service providers.

The actual DSL light on my router goes off so it looks like a Telkom issue.

Anyone else?

My friend in Wingate Park cannot stay connected for more than 2 minutes at a time...

I'm in Elardus Park, no connectivity problems, just slooow.

My line died completely last night at about 10PM. Still wasnt syncing this morning when i left. Im in Garsfontein. Your friend seems to be about 3-4 blocks from me if i do a quick map check. Could be the same exchange even - Telkom tells me im linked in to the Constantia Park/Garsfontein exchange.

I'm also experiencing problems. I also live in the East. Been experiencing problems since last year. I phoned Telkom and all they could tell me was that there is a problem at the Lynnwood Ridge Exchange and their technicians are aware of the problem, but they can't give me an estimation of when the problem will be resolved.
My line keeps dropping every 5-10 minutes.

Yesterday afternoon at about 14h00 i could finally remote into my home PC again and true enough when i got home it was still synced. Screwely connected at a mere 1411 down and 506 up on a 2Mb/s line, but it was there at least. Hope to find it the same when i get back tonight.

Meh arrived home and was still synced but down to 879 down and 506 up. I get the feeling its going to fail pretty soon. Just hoping it can hold out till after the raid 2night!

I got a sms during the night saying my line was reconnected and when I checked the router logs I saw it has been connected for 2 whole hours. Unfortunately my joy was short lived as the lined dropped again right then....

Phoned telkom and and the tech marked the fault as fixed even though I never even spoke to him

Yeh, they do that. >.<

Indeed. I cant recall how many times my line has crashed - i report - after 5-7 days later they arrive to check it out (meanwhile its been back up since a day or two after the phonecall all by its lonesome self). Then they look at me funny and leave. I tell them that if they just react when its down they could actually get a good idea of whats wrong with the damn thing instead of just opening and closing faults days later without doing anything about the problem.

Still synced at 6144/640 here since the 27th. On The Willows exchange.

Isn't it ironic that Telkom's online fault reporting form is also broken. So now they're forcing you to phone them and wait for hours before someone can help you.

Ok, so finally after 2 and a half weeks I have a steady line again, it only sync's at 1mb but at least I have a usable line. I'll start hounding telkom again today to get it sync'ing at 4mb again.

I'm pretty sure the only reason I got them to fix my line was the fact that the one techie made the fault of phoning me from his cell phone which gave me a number at which I could hound him until it was sorted. The first time I phoned him back he said he tried to phone the home phone but there was no answer so he left it.

I must have heard every possible reason under the sun the last few weeks about why my line was dropping the whole time from lightning blew out the cards in the DSLAM, to my modem is broken to heaven only knows what else. It turns out there was a fault on the line between my house and the telkom pole. Why it takes 2.5 weeks and at least 5 different techs looking at the problem (without visiting my house once, 3 of them just tested the dslam apparently and marked the fault as fixed, the other 2 just passed it on to somewhere else) nobody knows, especially after the tech who finally got to my house yesterday told me they are not really busy.

Another thing that gets me is all the excuses from the call center and a good example is I would phone one morning a be told a tech is on site at the exchange to look at it. When I phoned again later in the day I was told my fault has not been assigned to a tech yet.

I feel your pain dude. The telkom support in Pta East is shocking. Best of all they dont phone before coming anymore. I mean WTH. Twice now after reporting a fault i had our domestic phone me that they have pitched up @ home at the weirdest times. And each time i miss them cuz im either at work or out. Once he left me a note saying my router is faulty i had to replace. I laughed. Noticed he hardreset it. Lovely. Stuff Telkom has told me about my line issues :

1) I am too far from Constantia for a stable line.
2) My router is faulty.
3) There is a problem 'underground' that they have to attend to.
4) The main DSLAM has failed and needs to be fixed.
5) The wiring in my house is old.
6) There is a burst water pipe in Jacquiline Rd and the cables have gotten water (They use this one today still claiming damage from the incident)

Meh. What a fun life. Never had this kind of trouble when i used to live in Jhb.
