For the past week or so, I've had trouble browsing websites on the Gawker Media network, including www.kotaku.com and www.gizmodo.com. This issue is present on all three PCs on my home network. After confirming it wasn't a firewall or browser-specific problem, I asked a friend of mine who is also on iBurst if he was able to browse those websites, and he's having the exact same problem - the sites stop loading when Firefox's status is at "Read tags.[domain.com]" or "Loading cache-foo.[domain.com]", and all network activity ceases. After 5 minutes or so have passed, the website will resume loading, although this process remains incomplete (i.e. some content is missing from the page).

I can, however, successfully ping, tracert, and nslookup these sites from the command prompt. This problem only occurs in browsers (both Firefox and Internet Explorer). I do not have any problems loading anything else whatsoever.

I have contacted the iBurst helpdesk, who were totally unhelpful. Of course, these are the same people who took nearly four months to respond to a billing query, and then failed to resolve it. SURPRISE.

Is any other iBurst user (particularly in the Cape Town area) having the same problem?

They load for me (in Joburg)

Do you use Open dns settings?

Hey

I also had problems loading Kotaku on the weekend; took up to ten minutes before anything appeared.

I'm in Cape Town btw

I have a similiar problem but in my case I can not load www.collegehumour.com properly (no CSS and can't get to videos) and www.break.com will not load at all.

I have not tried the sites above (I'm at work now with ADSL) but I assume its the same problem.

I tried www.ninjaproxy.com and collegehumour loaded properly but could not still play videos, probably due to the ninjaproxy.

So whats up iBurst?

I am also in Cape Town, Northern Suburbs

Got the same problem on this side (JHB). On IE7, Firefox and Google Chrome
www.vwgticlub.co.za
www.itweb.co.za

Other websites okay.

Spoke to a "very bright" fellow in the call center, saying the problem on my side. Funny when I connect via Verizon or Vodacom 3G it works.

Still waiting for the call from the so called 2nd line support. That's was end of last week.

Just checked in Jozi, no worries here...

Spot the mistake - go here instead  ..but these loaded ok too.

These loaded OK too (but the VW GTi one starts with a wee (forum) link that, once clicked, gives you real content - is that right?

DNS in my router is 208.67.220.220, 168.210.2.2 and 196.7.142.132 - maybe give those a whirl 'n see what you get?

I don't have a problem loading itweb and vwgticlub, but I am definitely having issues loading www.collegehumor.com (now with New! Improved! Spelling!, although www.collegehumour.com automatically redirects ;)) and www.break.com. Does exactly the same stalled loading thing that kotaku and the others are doing.

I've tried using a number of different DNS addresses, including 208.67.220.220 and 196.7.142.132, to no avail. :(

I've been having huge problems accessing one of my sites hosted at WebAfrica from my iBurst connection. Did a little digging and it appears that MTN-Business is to blame.

When doing a trace route I get to MTN-Business JHB in about 80ms from my iBurst line... and then the next hop to get to MTN-Business Cape Town to reach WebAfrica is almost 4000ms!!!

Someone please go slap an engineer at MTN-Business...

Hi Ambo

Please provide me with some extra detail and we will see if we can get something right from our side.

Is anything being done about the problem loading the sites cited elsewhere in this thread? I'm becoming very annoyed about this. May I subtract a percentage of my monthly subscription for this inconvenience, since this service is clearly of the "mostly works" variety?

Kotaku takes TEN MINUTES TO LOAD IN MY BROWSER.
Using Ninja Cloak's proxy, IT LOADS INSTANTLY.
I'm NOT THE ONLY USER WITH THIS ISSUE.
THIS PROBLEM IS ON THE IBURST SIDE.

I'm fed up with iBurst's technical support being TOTALLY uninterested in customers' queries.

Ok, I have been quiet in this thread but that doesn't mean this has been fixed (I use iburst at home, adsl at work). I tend to visit the sites I mentioned above at home and tonight, I am really pissed off that I can't reach them and that this has been happening for more than a week.

I have been using opendns servers for a long time now.

Is this perhaps related to the announcement that iburst now "works with opendns"? I have a hunch that it may be.

Please, iBurst, can you please investigate and report back here.

Regards,
Nick

Anyone else having a problem connecting to the Sunday Times web site? Looks like a backhaul problem, since it works fine using Vodacom, but not MTN. Using MTN I get there in the end but it takes ages.
