Problems reinstalling Huwai E220

I know this has been covered before, but the links given in those threads do not work anymore (I get a 404 error, so the download pages have been deleted).

My 3 year old Laptop crashed last week. After some effort I got Windows Vista reinstalled, however now I have some challenges installing my Huwai E220 modem software. I follow the instruction on the Vodacom website and get to step 4. However the 'Installing Software' dialog never finishes. I have been waiting 30 mins now.

I have restarted the system, uninstalled the VMC components and retried the installation, still no luck. I have also phoned the technical guys, no luck there either.

I recall that in 2007, when I got this settup, I downloaded a different version of VMC from either the Huwai or the Vodacom website. That worked for me. I never updated the Modem Firmware though as is was not required to make it work.

I cant find that software now. Can anybody help me with a few links, or maybe other advice?

What version of VMC did you try and install now? Did you try VMCLite_E220_3_2_1_156_standard.zip or failing that the full VMC 9.4.x version?

I was actually using the VMC version that the device came out with, dont know what the version was.

I have now downloaded and installed VMCLite_E220_3_2_1_156_standard.zip. It did something to the Modem itself. After I restarted the Laptop, and the modem dont autorun anymore when I plug it in. I can browse the device itself but what exe on it do I run?

Where do I get VMC 9.4.x? I see a download for Setup-9.4.8.21929.zip on the Vodacom site, but I get the error 'HTTP Status 404 - /downloads/Setup-9.4.8.21929.zip' when I try it...

nm. After replugging and rebooting several times, I got the Modem to autoload again, and it is working now.

The solution was to upgrade to VMCLite_E220_3_2_1_156_standard.zip that I assume loaded a new image of VMC Lite onto the Modem.
