Hi all

Has anyone else’s account not been cancelled yet from Sentech?. I'm on a 128k classic month to month. I got the call last month, and I was told that if I wanted to convert to flexi, I would have to put in my application before the 24th of last month otherwise my account would be cancelled and I would be left with no connection. I confirmed with him 3 times, that if I did not do anything, that my account would be cancelled and I would not longer be with Sentech, and not be charged.

About a week later, he called me back to see what my decision was, and I told him that I wanted to cancel, and he gave me a cancellations number, which I never called, because he said that if I didn’t do anything, they would disconnect me, so I didn’t bother with calling cancellations.

Now, the end of last month has come and gone, and I’m still connected, surely I should have been disconnected by now, whats happening??

Anyone else with the same problem?

I don’t know if I should be happy or not, yay, a few more days of free internet, or are they gonna charge me, and I wonder on what package they will charge me on?

Hi BillyBudd

I was called as well with the same story. I will try to gain some clarity on the issue.

Regards,

RPM

Thanks, I will contact the bank.

I just want to know if they have already charged me R499(reflection wont show yet on my acc), then what? Do i have another month of 10 gig soft capped? Because i certainly have not agreed to pay 50/60c per meg over the 10 gig or whatever it is.

Sentech Support said:
Your contract
clearly states that: “This agreement shall commence on the
date of activation of the services and shall continue for
the initial period and thereafter indefinitely until
terminated by either part giving 1 [one] month prior
written notice to the other of termination of this
agreement, provided that the customer may not give any such
notice during the initial period. Sentech reserves the
right to cancel any agreement for whatsoever reason at any
on one [1] months written notice to the customer.”

Now when I did commercial law, one months notice meant one calendar month.

IE: October, however since this is the 2nd, that ship is sailed so November 2006.

I cancelled and confirmed that I would not be charged again at the end of September. They better not have charged me and failed to cancel the contract, or they will have unleashed the f-ing fury. Then I'll physically GO to their offices in fourways and DEMAND the amount in CASH.

I'll gladly get a group of us together.

As far as I know, the cancellations will only be enforced at the end of October. Until then, the soft cap will still apply. I have had 3 conversations with the Sentech helpdesk confirming this. I'll be keeping an eye on my debit orders anyway...just in case.

it's ok if the soft cap does still apply, but did you ask the help desk if you will be charged 50/60cents or so after the soft cap (because apparently this is what is going to happen to people on classic contracts until the end of thier contract span)

Now as far as i'm concerned, if sentech hasn't cancelled me yet, and i do go over my cap this month, they can't charge me per meg over the cap because i have not agreed to this in the contract, the agreement i still have with them is that for R499 a month, i get a 10gig soft cap without being charged per meg over the cap. They cant just give me less service for the same price without my consent or option of immidiate cancellation. Thats like signing up for a gym contract for R150 a month and then 2 months later they say, sorry...you can no longer use the pool or the squash courts, you have to pay extra for that.

This countrys customer service, and internet services is wearing my patience thin. My British passport is getting very itchy.

I asked this exact question and was told that current rules still apply. The soft cap is in place and there will be no charge for exceeding your cap. I don't have the calls recorded, but I have noted the date and time of the call as well as the names of the helpdesk consultants.

Thanks for the info Orin.

I will get confirmation myself and log the names of the consultants and times as well and try get a reference number if the call centre has such things.

What adsl package you going on to? There are no decently priced uncapped options, even at low speeds, or are there?

Thinking of iburst but worried about the shaping, and the pings.

I Have just called, and I was told exactly the same thing. 10 gig softcapped till end of this month without charge over 10 gig.

So if i understand them correctly, if you go over 10gig they won't charge you, but once you go over 11gig then they start nailing you... ?

Hmmmm....I even requested cancellation and recieved an email CONFIRMING it at the end of September but low and behold my account is still active.

Last thing I need is a Mywi bill now that I've got Iburst.

Thanks to some unexpected Telkom efficiency, I currently have a 384kbps ADSL line. I only expected to be connected sometime in November. I haven't signed up with an ISP yet, but I'll probably get a 5GB Webafrica account once I cancel Sentech. I'll have to get used to monitoring my bandwidth usage :o
