I just got my new rig, but something is wrong.

I have : C2D E6550 & Asus P5K board and Coolermaster 550w psu and 1GB DDR2 667

Using Rightmark cpu it shows that one of my cores are running at 2333.7Mhz with the multiplier at 7, which is the default for this CPU as far as i know.

And the other one is jumping between 2003.0Mhz and 2333.7Mhz with the multiplier constantly changing between 6 and 7.

And it feels as if something is not working the way it should.

Everything is setup correct en plugged in and the CPU is not overheating or any of those things

PLease HELP 1 !! ?????

:(:(:(:(:(

Your cpu has "Intel speedstep" technology, it is this function on the cpu, that throttles your cpu back to a lower multiplier when idle. Mine fluctuates between 6x and 11x multipier.

Thanks

So there is nothing I can do to keep it constant ?

My friend has an E6600 and his is constant all the time, but thats propably cause he doesnt have speedstep on that cpu..

My pc lags every now and again when i start something up or so and i don't know what causes that.

I read on the asus website in the P5K forum the current bios version totally sucks. It swops the cpu and motherboard temps and stuff like that. Maybe this could be the cause of the sudden freezes i am experiencing ? ?

There is a newer beta bios but i am to scared that if i load that bios i cant reverse it back to the previous versions, or can I ???

Aswell nothing is overclocked.

You can always move back to a older bios, there's only a problem if you screw up the flashing. On that note if you're planning on flashing, DOWNLOAD THE CORRECT BIOS for your motherboard put it on a FLASH DRIVE and go into the BIOS then use the Asus Easy flash from the BIOS to flash the BIOS.

I use it constantly on my Asus M2N32-Sli and i've flashed my bios about 10 times now (if not more), works 100% each time. It's very safe and easy.

You should be able to disable speed step if I'm not mistaken (haven't owned a Intel CPU in about 5 years or so but my AMD has a option Cool 'n' Quiet [Disable]/[Auto], Intel should have a similar one called Speed Step), might be a good way to check if everything is ok.

I can almost guarantee it's not the CPU tho, I have yet to see a CPU that fails (except for 2 cases, I tried to push a old P3 as far as I could pushing the voltage up until it fried, second time when a friend broke some pins of a CPU, which obviously broke it)

Probably the motherboard if it's anything.

Yeah, rambling a bit but you get the idea ;)

I currently use a Gigabyte K8N Pro-SLi but I have an Asus Striker Extreme standing around until I scrape together enough cash to upgrade :D

i dont buy anything but gigabyte

asus are going downhill fast im telling you

Really? I always though they were great! They're the same brand now tho... (Asus and Gigabyte merged or one bought the other something in those lines)

Although my friends got a Asus Intel based C2D board that I'm not too impressed with but my current board was definitely one of the best I've ever owned.

There should be an option in the bios settings to disable speedstep. There's an option like that in my asus p5n32 e sli board.
