Hi guys,
Once again I am having some completely weird issues (surprise, surprise)
Over the weekend, went out and got myself a Samsung LA40A650 (40" 6 Series, with Touch of Colour). I hooked this baby up to my HTPC via HDMI. The GFX card in the PC has no "native" HDMI out, and only works with an ATi DVI-HDMI adapter, to transmit both audio and video. The GFX card in question is the Sapphire ATi Radeon HD3470 512MB.
Once I had hooked everything up, set the resolution to 1920x1080, the picture seemed a little bit weird. The images displayed looked perfect, but text was very bad. I decided to run a couple of standard PC monitor tests, and while most looked acceptable, the Moire test (where each alternating pixel is set to either white or black, creating a overall uniform grey screen) the picture was not uniform at all, and the screen made a buzzing sound.
I initially suspected the TV, but then decided to hook it up via a normal VGA cable, and all the issues went away. Obviously this does not rule out the HDMI input on the TV, but at least I am quite sure that the panel is alive.
Any ideas what the issue could be? Basically, I have ruled it down to one of 2 things:
1: HDMI input on TV
2: DVI-HDMI adapter screwing around with signal
Any help would be appreciated.
