I have a ZTE mobile wifi router which runs on a Telkom broadband sim only data contract. Usually not a moment's problem with this little router. It connects seamlessly to both my laptop and my Samsung Galaxy A10 android phone.
Since loadshedding (!!!) I am battling to get my router to reconnect to wifi. I switch on Wifi on my phone, then a message pops up "Sign in to Wifi network" (I never used to get this by the way, it just connected immediately). I sign in anyway. It connects....then suddenly...boom...no network again and I get the message.."internet may not be available". No internet. No Whatsapp. No gmail. ZILCH.
I have now tried the following:
I have rebooted both my phone and the router. No dice.
I have taken out the battery of the router, put it back in and rebotted. No dice.
I have even reset the router to factory settings. No dice.
I am tearing out my hair in frustration here.
Had to revert to my good oldfashioned MTN internet dongle to be able to connect to the internet via my laptop and load data onto my phone so I can use Whatsapp, since wifi seems to have disappeared off the map. A friend of mine on our whatsapp community group tells me it is because broadband goes bonkers during loadshedding and sudden power-on again. Is this fact?
Oh....and there is 9GB available on the router. So I know this seems to be a Telkom or router problem. Only occurred since Eskom's dumb 2-a-day loadsheddings.
Help please??????

The reason it's asking you to login to the network is it is seeing the router has no Internet.

Are you only having this problem when you are being loadshed or all the time.

Are you sure the router has Internet connection

Working as designed.

Your phone doesn’t want to connect to it because it’s not detecting an internet connection.

Indeed you all seem to be right. It is a loadshedding problem. Telkom broadband having problems with all the loadshedding. Slowing down systems considerably. Wifi okey again for now, connecting perfectly, but seems whenever load shedding hits us the problem is there. I was told to leave the router on 24/7 to enable quicker connection but I dont like that idea. Eats the battery and also unhealthy situation at night while sleeping.

Leave it on, nothing unhealthy about it.

The Phone checks for a remote route and doesn’t find one and then fails over to mobile instead usually, hence your problem.
