I have been calling for this for a long time now.

South Africa selection panel sacked

A day after Mickey Arthur quit as national coach, South Africa's selection panel has also been sacked by the board. Mike Proctor, the chairman of selectors, confirmed the development on a local radio station in Johannesburg.

Procter told Talk Radio 702 that Cricket South Africa had fired the entire selection panel, which included Craig Matthews, Winky Ximiya and Mustapha Khan, and an interim one would be appointed to serve until February 19. "It came as a huge shock to us all," Procter said. He added that only CSA would be able to confirm if the developments were linked to the transformation issue.

More to follow …

OMG YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow arthur gone, proctor gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am hoping smithers is not next though. Now let's just hope they do not replace them with people who want the quota made up :(.

Well the coach may not alway be around to see players who are not in the team playing perhaps? He is more than likely concentrating on the players within the squad as opposed to players not in the squad.

Almost like scouts i would imagine.

so do they recommend players to join the team or do they put players in the team?

I have no idea in regards to that, i would imagine though the coach has very little say in who gets picked though. He may pick the final team that plays but the squad i am not sure if he gets much chance to say who he wants in the squad. He just works with the squad that is selected.

As i said though i am just guessing :D.

I suppose you have facts to back it up.

Not like we have one black african in the current test team. That is a fact.

Yawn, there is only one that might have a case, the rest are not performing at first class level at all

Interesting...

I remember a few years ago CSA claimed there was no "real quota" system in place & people would be selected on merit. Obviously this was BS - the ANC loves messing around in former 'white' sports. Just hope they don't hire some quota selector whose sole achievement is coaching the U14A cricket side. However saying that, there are quite a few players of colour in the team - Amla, Prince, Gibbs (for ODIs), Duminy, Parnell. Don't understand what their issue is.

I suppose it is because they aren't on par with Bafana Bafana. :)

I dont understand this selection panel, you get a coach --> coach chooses his players. not really rocket science that is
They do have a purpose. Part of their job is to scout the local scene and select a squad based on the best of what they've seen. The coach then selects the playing 11.

The coach doesn't really have time to focus on domestic cricket, as well as training the national team.

I only hear white people talking that there is a quota issue. Probably whenever they see a non white in the team thats the first thought in their minds.

I heard on 702 yesterday afternoon, that these players aren't considered 'black enough'

According to CSA, there were no black 'faces' on the field in the 4th test... and i think that is what caused the sackings...

Cricket is different from other sports. The coach has a vote but the selection panel of 4 pick the squad, the coach and captain then pick the starting side.

No Coaches coach players ;)

Like Stefan9 said:" The coach has a vote but the selection panel of 4 pick the squad, the coach and captain then pick the starting side. "

Name another two or three black players that deserve to be there. I can only think of Tsostobe for ODIs.

The only other players of colour who are in the running is tsostobe who has been called up for both odi and tests for the indian tour. Vandiar will play for SA as well since along with rossouw he is the best young batsmen in the country, but then he may be considered not black enough since he is indian.
