I have 305 enchanting on my dr00d. I'd rather have Alchemy (which doubles the time any potion last if you can make it) and Herbalism (which grants you an extra healing ability)

Do you think I should drop my enchanting for Alchemy/Herbalism? My other profession is tailoring but that's just because I needed mats for DE

Yes and no.

It depends on various things. I would rather have one of my other alts take the new proffs than having to drop 300+ enchanting which is a bitch to level.

But it all a personal choice.

Hmmm, cause I don't want to play anymore alts. I'd rather get in line with my main and finish game content do achievements and start raiding for once in the last 4 years I've been playing

But you do know how long it is going to take you to get that Alch/Herb level'd don't you. Might as well use that time to level an alt and get the mats in the areas you're leveling in than having to run around the whole of Azeroth with your main :p

But like I said, that is just my opinion :p

you do get flower power healing from one of those two (can't remember which one) which is nice.

I leveled enchanting in TBC for the ring enchants, but it turned out to be quite profitable with the de thing going, but from 430 upwards is a pain to level. Alchemy is awesome, but I would rather go for Herbalism and Enchanting. Moola!

Take Herbalism and Alchemy :)

You can make tons of gold selling your pots and herbs where the other 2 don't really make any gold...at all.

I am also an elxir master. It is good to have if you mainly make flasks. I had mats to make 20 Flasks of the frost wyrm two nights back. I ended up with 27 from being an elxir master. Bear in mind, at certain times of the week, you can get as much as 65gold per flask. However, farming herbs can be rather boring. I suggest not more than one hour else you go a little crazy. Lichbloom is always a high seller.

For my char, I actually make more money selling herbs than selling potions. I'm focused on getting to level 80 though, so I haven't spent any time getting recipes. I don't have any flasks and only a few transmutations.

As for leveling herbalism and alchemy, it's not that difficult. At one point, I switched to skinning and leatherworking, and then switched to herbalism/inscription. I found it relatively easy to level up herb again. It only gets annoying when you start to reach areas with green mobs, and that is only cos you tend to aggro them easier when you try to herb.

I switched back to alchemy and it took me a week to get to 300. And that was because I was collecting herbs rather than buying them off the AH.

As for the herb healing spell, it's not that great. It's good for leveling classic, but when you get to Outland, it's usability drops a lot when you get 5K+ health. I'm starting Northrend now, and I don't really use it anymore. Only great thing about it is that it doesn't shift you back to caster form for druids.

As for making money, while the potions and flasks sell for cheaper than other professions, you also have to consider than things like enchants are used on a more permanent basis, while flasks are only temporary and should (theoretically) always have a market. Not to mention the extras you get to sell from procs in your mastery.

Enchanting is hands down the most efficient proffession in the game. It can benefit anyone and it means every single item you get is never wasted.

I'd rather drop Herbalism and buy Alchemy mats if u really must have Alchemy.

Alchemy is actually a very beneficial profession to have. With mixology you gain extra duration and stats from your flasks/potions etc. Also, you get the crazy alchemists potion [from northrend alchemy research] which gives you the same amount of mana back as a runic mana potion as well as almost the same amount of HP back as a runic health potion PLUS on occasion a random potion buff. This is very worthwhile. As a herbalist you forage plenty eternal life. You can use your Transmute Eternal Life to Eternal Fire each day for a guaranteed 30g (maybe more, depending on the time and day of the week). I wouldnt suggest buying your mats on the AH, it becomes very costly and makes people like me very rich. Saying that, if you have an alt give that character herbalism and drop it from your main. When my deathknight is 80, I plan to drop herbalism for Jewelcrafting. The main thing is always have a character that can do herbalism. Elixirs are very expensive at the moment as frost lotus's are in short supply.

If you need to make gold in a hurry, farm for herbs early in the morning for a few hours. Rotate between Sholazar Basin and the Storm Peaks. Tiger Lily nodes seem to drop the most frost lotus for me. Adder's Tongue is always in demand. Goldclover sells fast. Lichbloom and Ice thorn are often sold out over a busy week-end. You can sell 1 stack of lichbloom for 80g in this time period. The key thing, is never stash 15 stacks of lichbloom on the AH, someone will always come along and undercut your prices. I never place more than 3 stacks of a specific herb up on the AH. I never sell when prices are low, its a waste of your time.

Another tip, if someone gives you mats for say 5 Flasks of Endless rage, give them 5 flasks that you have got premade in your bank box. Don't make it in front of them. You wan't to make the extra money from when your elixir master procs.
