I am making a piece of furniture for one of my kids to help her be a bit more comfortable after an operation and I need to get the parts cut.

It will be made from 12mm supawood / MDF.

Laser cutting seems to be an option, but most companies I have found on the web can only cut up to 6mm and they have long lead times.

I am in a bit of a bind as her opp is on Friday and I still need to get everything assembled and painted.

Any suggestions?

PS. Based in Midrand.

I found Woodpecker CNC in Midrand and they really went out of their way to help. Mike is the owner and an absolute gentleman.

That doesnt look to complicated. Get a R99 Jigsaw and cut it yourself.

It may look like it at first glance, but it's not that simple.

The sides have no right angles and therefore not easy to measure out. Furthermore jigsaws are handy, but cutting 6+ meters of wood with jigsaw is not my idea of fun. Not to mention that I am yet to cut a perfect cut with a jigsaw.

Here is the end result. It still needs paint but we are almost there.

Glad you succeeded in getting that made Duan.

What is it ..... if you don't mind sharing. If not I understand.

It is a chair to allow a child with a spica cast to be in a comfortable upright position. A spica cast is typically used when a hip operation is done.

Thinking of you your family and expecially your daughter during this time and I hope all goes well with the operation.
Glad you got sorted.

Thanks for explaining. Fascinating that you found a plan for the special chair and wonderful that you actually managed to have it made. It'll help your little one to heal more comfortably.

Hope all goes well with the op. Children are more resilient than we imagine but it must be a worrying time for you.

Thanks, appreciate the well wishes! She went in this morning.

Sitting here trying to distract myself... the most amazing thing was that when Mike called me to collect (same day service can you believe) he would not accept payment.

He decided to give it as a gift!

What an amazing man!

Companies like that need to be given the credit they deserve...

This may sound like a small thing, but definitely post pictures of the chair on facebook and link to Mikes company (not that I've ever used them, or would use them due to distance)...

Yaaaaaay that is such good news!!!!!!

You must be glad it's over and will be plain sailing from now on.

I have liked and shared their page for what it's worth.
Sorry, I'm raising the dead here with this post.

Anyone know of an affordable laser cutting service? It would be 15 minutes max and mdf.
I'm based in Midrand.

Couldn't get a hold of Michael.
