Programming as a hobby

Another thing you can look into, html5, css3, javascript, combined with phoneGap, phoneGap will generate your code into a native mobile app, but this is not true mobile development, but definitely is a way of getting it done....

Of all the posts so far, this is the one that I would recommend. I really really dislike html and javascript but knowing it will possibly be the most beneficial to you.

Since:
1) You can create websites.
2) With things like PhoneGap you can create apps for phones.
3) Windows 8 apps can also be developed using html and javascript.

I mean, that would just be awesome for a new developer.

Made my decision for now. Will start with this and take it from there.

Edit: erm, this is embarrassing. I'm getting syntax errors already. I'm guessing I need the python libraries or a framework to use? Would django be good?

Edit 2: Fixed, turns out I was using Python 2 commands in Python 3 :o

this thing with python is, it can basically work out the box, scientists love using python for this particular reason, you can do pretty advanced things without including anything.....

However, I forgot to mention, windows is not always python friendly, you will need to setup your environments and point them to your python installed directory, etc.... Whenever I code in python, I just use Linux, it's just way easier.

Django is definitely the BEST framework for python.

I've been thinking of trying Python also for a while now. Just have no idea about programming :erm:

Depends on what you're into.

At work I am a C#.NET/VB.NET developer, but I have just started playing with Unity3d, a development tool to develop games :D

Link: http://unity3d.com

It has many tutorials, so you'll be sorted!

Getting a little bored with python now, lost interest in it a while ago :erm: Going to try to learn a new one.

I would agree with you! Android is the best way to learn and get results QUICKLY.

I found ios easier. I found Objective C is very easy to learn.

Downside is you can't test on physical device without paying the dev fees. You can still write apps and run them on the simulator. Another downside, it's way easier with a mac. A mission using virtual machine on windows.

The strange thing is that I have way more Java experience than C/C++, yet found coding for ios easier. I found ios to be great way to get into C/C++ from that perspective.

But that's just me :)
