Here is an updated FAQ to answer questions that players may have in PR v0.86.

Q: What do I need to download to install PR v0.86, Patch, Core or Levels?
A: If you do already have Project Reality v0.85 installed, then all you need to do is download the "Patch".
If you don't already have Project Reality v0.86 installed then you will need to download BOTH the "Core" and the "Levels".

Q: I cannot run the installer, it just hangs.
A: If you are running Windows Vista, try disabling User Account Control (UAC). You can also try disabling your anti-virus protection, and any other program that may be interfering with the launch of the installer. If this doesn't help, it may be a corrupted download. You can try fixing the corrupt sectors by using the torrent and pointing the save location to the corrupted installer, saving you having to download the entire file again.

Q: I have no desktop shortcut, how can I run PR?
A: If you are installing PR v0.86 Full, the "Levels" installer will automatically create the desktop shortcut for you. If you are installing PR v0.86 Patch, then the desktop shortcut will be made automatically.
If for whatever reason this does not happen, then you will need to make it yourself. Navigate to your PR directory, example:
(Default directory)
"C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\"
Right click on "pr" or "pr.exe" (it will have a dogtags icon), then go Send To -> Desktop (Create Shortcut). Then rename it to "Project Reality", and then you can double click that icon to launch PR from now on.

Q: I get an error when launching PR.
A: pr.exe requires .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. This should've been automatically installed through the "Core" or "Patch" installer. If this didn't happen, try updating manually by going to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...2F-5D1A-413D-8319-81DA479AB0D7&displaylang=en site and downloading the installer.

Q: After logging into PR, I get an error message You must use "pr.exe" to run Project Reality. Please update your shortcuts as required.
A: Firstly, take note of the message under that, IF YOU HAVE JUST CREATED A NEW ACCOUNT, PLEASE RESTART PROJECT REALITY. So, if you have just created or retrieved an account, simply quit out of PR, then launch it again. It should allow you to log in.
If the error still shows, then you are not using "pr.exe" to run Project Reality. You cannot launch PR from the community tab in BF2, it must be launched from pr.exe. Check your desktop shortcuts, and make sure it looks similar to this:
(Default Directory)
Target:
"C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe"
Start In:
"C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\mods\pr"
If that STILL doesn't work, you are sure that you are using pr.exe, but you still get the error, try deleting your My Documents/Battlefield 2 folder, launch PR, retrieve your account, restart PR, then see if that works.

Q: I am getting kicked from servers for Punkbuster MD5Tool Mismatch errors.
A: This error means the files you are using have been modified one way or another. Could've been by accident, could've been on purpose. Either way, you will get kicked. To fix, take note of the filename. If it is "something" or "mods\bf2\something", try running the BF2 v1.41 patch again, or if that doesn't help, try reinstalling BF2 from scratch. If it is "mods\pr\something", you need to reinstall PR 0.86.

Q: I am getting kicked from servers for Punkbuster issues other than MD5Tool Mismatch errors.
A: Most commonly, these types of issues are solved by updating Punkbuster files. You can do this by running PBSetup. If that still doesn't fix the issue, try running PBSVC and reinstalling the Punkbuster service.

Q: I can't see any servers in the server list.
A: Ensure that you are running BF2 v1.41. Previous or newer versions are not supported by Project Reality.

Q: I am crashing to desktop when loading/changing levels.
Q: I am getting a lot of lag on levels.
A: The most common cause of this is that you are running out of memory (though there are other causes). BF2 was a memory intensive game, and PR only increases on that.
First, you can try lowering your video settings, in particular, Textures. If that doesn't help or fix your issue, you can try increasing your virtual memory.
If that STILL doesn't work, you can try patching your bf2.exe to allow it to use more than 2GB of memory. This is only useful if you indeed do have more than 2GB of memory. Firstly, you want to backup your current bf2.exe in your "C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2" (default install location) folder. To do this, simply rename it from bf2.exe to bf2.exe.original. You should back it up incase you have any issues in the future. Now you need to download the patched bf2.exe. This can be found in THIS zip file (THIS one if your using the EA Downloader version) (If you get a virus warning, ignore it, just a false positive). Then simply extract it next to bf2.exe.original, and your good to go.
PLease not the training map Kashan Dessert is prone to make you disconnect, a bug that has still not been sorted out, this only happens if the map is on training mode. It has been moved to the bottom of the rotation on the server.

it also used to irritate the crap out of me but you get used to it and learn to get the fsk out of the way and throw the grenades back, i wonder if the 1.50 patch is going to limit the number of grenades??

Just thought I'd put some feelers out and see if anybody around these parts are keen to join myself and a couple of the old stalwarts of PR for a bit of old school roshambo PR style
It will be on Int servers (AFAIK there are no more ZA PR servers) and require the V1 of PR.

Hey Headtrauma...hows ARMA going? Im on the PR servers nearly every day all day With version 1 out now (finally) its pretty polished and has a good friendly crowd. I usually play EU servers, MERK or NWA and early morning or late CIA and HOG. Ping for me is 180-300 and pretty playable. Really is the best game Ive found and Ive been playing since 77....(19, not 18)
