Projector or 42" lcd

Some projectors also give off a lot of hot air. To the extent where you can't bear it in a smallish room

So does a PC ;) Its pretty awesome in the winter but a 40C heater/pc in the summer is not really that great...

Dont you get projectors with HD outputs?

A 5k projector at 720p is a much more enjoyable experience provided you have the right room setup. DSTV HD looks anything but dull on a projector. Will post a pic if I get a chance. Visitors are blown away by the projector picture.

Keeper? I got the email with your response but I don't see it here? Wtf? I was just about to reply! ;) Did you get banned for flaming again? perhaps we have seen the last of that mongrel :D :D

you set your e-mail to tell you if I respond? how desperate.... did you get all excited??? :D:D:D

Iv'e never ever even received a warning, nevermind ban, thanks for the laugh though, "spoonboy"

Edit: oh, and i deleted it - decided you weren't worth the effort, as a guy who's named "spoon" just isn't worth anything really...

Yes well please don't hold back man, i am eager to sort this out already :)

Cheapass 720p LG projector on a BOC screen with a handheld camera. Picture doesn't do the real image justice.

I got mine (and so did many others) a while ago at Game for R2999.
I did a quick search and I see Webantics have them for R4993.98
Still a bargain I reckon ;)

Black is technically the "dark white" of the screen or wall you are projecting onto, but your eyes don't work that way. The brain adjusts to the bright white light and makes the "dark white" wall seem black. Built in dynamic contrast!

Modern DLP projectors give very good images and light output. Also DLP doesnt have the chicken wire effect, which is a symptom of LCD construction. DLP only has pixels and a slight rainbow effect on the cheaper models. But even in a lit room , a modern projector will look great.

Yes, you have one S-Video input, one HDMI, one regular composite and one VGA input with a component adaptor so the options are pretty broad.

Hmmmm... do I buy one of these for my bedroom or just hold off and wait for a bit long.

Zeb how far away do i need be from the screen? My place is not very big maybe 5 m from one side of the wall to the other and my couch is about 2.7m from my tv currectly which is where i would put the pull out screen.

How big is the free screen they give you?

Yeah I know...

But there is a new pc needed as well at some point in teh not too distant future.

I didn't get a free screen, that's only the Rectron special. The first screen I build was a BOC (Blackout Cloth) screen. Then I went with laminate after reading up on avsforum
Tried both Fashion Grey and Designer White and I liked DW more.
Here's a pic of the FG that's excess to my requirements.

Screen size is 72" and my seating distance is about 3m.

Is there a projector like the one that is linked that does 1080p?
