Hi folks,

I see that Kalahari and Takealot are both selling the Proline R718DC tablet at R799. I feel this is a good price for a entry dual core tablet to be mostly used as a browsing and odd app toy.

Specs aren't high end but this is to be expected of a R799 unit. At least the warranty/support is local.

The only thing that I'm wondering about is the Google Play store. I currently have a few paid apps I would like to retrieve from the Play Store if I decide to get this unit. However, I've heard of many entry level units, especially those cheap china ones you'll find on Bid or Buy that don't come with the play store included. You can try loading the APK for it, but usually this causes problems especially if the device is not rooted.

Rooting the Proline is most likely not going to be possible anyway and I don't feel like rooting. So basically I was hoping that there's someone that can maybe shed some light on if this unit natively comes with the Google Play Store.

I know there are plenty of better units for slightly more but I like R799 price and spec wise it seem more than suitable for the needs I have in mind.

Thanks :)

Also interested in getting a cheap tablet for my kiddo.

Does it have otg? If you do get it please report back with a short review.

I phoned pinnacle but according to them all android tables have the Google Play Store, which is obviously not true so that didn't help me much.

Ask them to provide that information in an email to you.

Yea they just pointed me to the website, which as expected was no help at all.

Good question, should be interesting to find out.... however, according to one of the reviews on Takealot, you can not charge the unit via USB. Don't know if that would make a difference.

That sucks
For that reason alone I would like at an alternative.

Another odd discovery.

Takealot/Kalahari has the resolution at 800x480 but Proline website at 800x400. Getting proper info on this tablet is proving to be quite tricky.
