Anyone have one of these?

I don't personally have one but the few reviews I have rate this better than the EEE. Bear in mind though that this is the 3-cell version that only has a battery life of 2 and a bit hours. The 6-cell version will be much more expensive when it comes out.

That price is within spitting distance of a real laptop...

Not that much of new laptops at this price range use backlight LED display panels, and the new Atom processor..........

I think it's more of a market segmentation, different needs for different people.

You can't compare this to a normal sized laptop. This is either for a second laptop or a cheap portable if you have a desktop. You also have to compare these prices to the likes of the Vaio TX series which has an 11 inch screen yet costs 20K+!!!

I was hoping this was the 6 cell one. The info is not exactly clear in this regard.

If the battery life is only 2 odd hours, then it renders the whole thing rather sucky.

80GB vs a 4GB SSD. How does boot up speed compare?

Personally I am not at all bothered by boot up speed.

The 2GB SSD on the entry level EEE I have is frankly too small to do anything useful with- the same could be said of the screen, keyboard and battery life :o

My girlfriend just got herself one of these. It's an awesome little machine. It comes with the 3-cell battery, so battery life isn't great, but it's ideal for what's she's using it for.

I am way impressed with the speed of it. In fact, I'm really considering getting myself one of these, then just buying some extra RAM and a 6-cell battery (when they become available).

I got one the other day. The only problem I have with it is the battery life but I intend to get a 6cell battery as soon as they become available. Otherwise I'm extremely chuffed with it :D

Oh, by the way those of you who are interested in the 6cell version, word is that they replaced the original synaptics touchpad with some generic version without scrolling capabilities. :| So I'd watch out for that.

The 6 cell battery packs are expected to arrive later this week.

If anyone here has bought a Proline U100 from Landmark Computers please contact me as I have a free carry bag for you.

If you've bough elsewhere please contact the dealer you bought from as they should have a bag for you too.

Who wants a Vaio when you can have the Japanese market Kohjinsha SX:
With a 1.33 GHz Intel Atom CPU, 8.9" 1280x768 touchscreen, and integrated optical drive, the SX is an extremely capable full size laptop replacement. Full specs include 1GB RAM, 60GB HDD, built-in Wi-Fi, built-in GPS, and a long lasting 4.5 hour battery. Expansion ports include a mult-format memory card slot and an ExpressCard/34 slot capable of accepting a mobile broadband WWAN modem.

Its inclusion of an integrated super multi-DVD module makes the Kohjinsha SX is the world's smallest tablet PC with a built-in optical drive. Burn burn both CDs and DVDs whether you are in the office or on the go.

The Kohjinsha is an amazing looking device but for me the weight is not really worth it.

People need to stop looking at Netbooks as the replacement to their primary desktop or notebook. These are purely for mobility and a secondary laptop.

It's a NETbook as in it is for connecting to the Internet.

*sigh* - I was about to order one of these from Kalahari, but the price went up by R500 from last week :(

Guess I'll wait it out.

Hmm... Landmark still has it for R45xx.00, to bad they don't take ebucks :(
