Isn't it cool how printed out emailed statements now serve as proof of address. They don't serve as proof of email address, no Sir, they serve as proof of physical address. In the past the statement you received at an address implied it was a real physical address you had access to, but now with emailed statements the physical address has nothing to do with possession of the statement, but it's still required. What stupidity South Africa now has.

Oh and what if you don't have any statements? You can just sign an affidavit at the cop shop.

Hey, I wouldn't complain too hard the one time that South African stupidity actually serves to make your life easier rather than harder ;)

It's a bit like how your local SAPS will dutifully certify as many documents as you want ... while in effect an extremely bored police officer (who drew the short straw) stamps away while looking at their nails.

It's silly, actually.

My father's utility bill only has his ID number on it, not his name, so they won't accept it. However, his Monochoice account (for the drifta thingy) has his Initials and address on it and is therefore accepted.

Friend of mine used a kalahari invoice as proof of delivery. Dont see the point anymore,

Since when?

As far as I know, they only serve as proof of address if you fold them to look like they came in the mail, otherwise they are not accepted?

Yup, I have this issue everywhere. No one wants to accept a damn emailed statement. All my other stuff comes to my PO Box, leaving me out of luck. Avidavit each and every time. Sigh

You can also only RICA using a Statement if it contains the Postal Code in the address.

I just block out EMAIL STATEMENT on top of the page. I don't have time to fold them :D

I'm having this exact problem right now. Don't have any physical mail coming to my new address.

Went to the cop shop to do an affidavit but financial institutions like insurance and the bank wouldn't accept an affidavit. Tried to use electronic copies of my previous address just to get a renewal of my credit card delivered but the courier company delivering it, would not accept it.

I'm basically screwed until I can move into a place of my own and get a lease - bank will accept a certified copy of your lease, signed by both parties; a renewal letter too.

I have untold rica issues when applying for new sim cards, contracts, phones, etc...
My Eishkom & JHB city council bill contain both contain my PO Box addy....none with a street address...
This whole rica thing has gone overboard anyway...hasn't stopped the criminals for which it was designed...

I have no lease, and no physical address for mail. I have no TV, so no TV license, and no accounts for electricity or water. I have no landline either.

Luckily I can toddle off down to the town hall and stand at the little window there where I tell the nice ladies what my address is, and they will write it out on an official form, and stamp it as being correct, and that seems to be good enough for RICA. I can also print a letter on a company letterhead stating that I rent a house from the company with the address, and get one of my colleagues to sign it. In fact, last time I financed a car, I signed the letter myself, and they seemed happy with that.

I was at ABSA the other day to open a new account. They wanted a proof of address which I didn't have with me. But I rent a flat from the bank manager so it was very convenient, the sales lady just picked up the phone and asked the bank manager to walk 10 metres to sign some or other form.

:D
Epic epic epic.

Lol. I used a forged one where I used to change the date whenever I needed to. It was the truth, at the time, but I just couldn't be bothered going to HR everytime I needed one...and it always worked.

Unless you want everyone to see your actual name I suggest you remove the doc. ;)
