Proof of address

I've had endless trouble with the bank and FICA after I moved. I could update my postal address, but not residential address, without proof of residence. At that point, I updated all other accounts as well, and did not yet receive a statement with the new address. So I received one the bank posted to me, and took that in to them, and they told me it has to be from someone else

So I took an Edgars account, that was emailed to me, and they would not accept it, because the idiot on the other end of the Edcon client services line swopped my initials around. No go. Tried another account, my street name was spelled incorrectly. Endless hassles.

Isn't it cool how printed out emailed statements now serve as proof of address. They don't serve as proof of email address, no Sir, they serve as proof of physical address. In the past the statement you received at an address implied it was a real physical address you had access to, but now with emailed statements the physical address has nothing to do with possession of the statement, but it's still required. What stupidity South Africa now has.

Oh and what if you don't have any statements? You can just sign an affidavit at the cop shop.

You make it seem so easy. They probably see me coming every time.

I'm having this exact problem right now. Don't have any physical mail coming to my new address.

Went to the cop shop to do an affidavit but financial institutions like insurance and the bank wouldn't accept an affidavit. Tried to use electronic copies of my previous address just to get a renewal of my credit card delivered but the courier company delivering it, would not accept it.

I'm basically screwed until I can move into a place of my own and get a lease - bank will accept a certified copy of your lease, signed by both parties; a renewal letter too.

SARS accepts such affidavits. Use with them then get a statement from SARS and use that.

Whenever I need proof of residence I go to the local municipality and ask for a counselors letter (proof of residence), takes like 5min to get and they only ask for the address, your id number and signature. It's valid for three months and most places will accept it I think.

Right. Which makes the whole thing retarded and waste of time and money. Thank the government for more useless restrictions which your tax pays for.

Both Rica and Fica are totally pointless. The dishonest just use fake documentation. In fact they're beyond pointless because they're so difficult to manage that they encourage dishonesty.

yep... :(

Taking a chance here.

Involved in a project where we need to source client FICA docs (ID and Proof of Address). Has anyone been involved in something like before? Are there companies that do this or is it better to set up and call centre and start calling clients?

I had banks calling me for FICA and it was a nightmare, so would really like to avoid that.
