Proposal: A second formal complaint to ICASA

The R404 is only for dispatch of the technician (time &material& petrol). With self install available this fee will fall away. The Once off fee suggested by ICASA , to cover initial DSL Capex could easily be >R100K per user for the early adopters + repair & mainanance will be closer to R404 per incident + material. Frankly it is more viable to retain DSL access fee but at a lower rate.
2002: $100 per port (second article, and presumed to be $65)
2003: $60 per port + modem

Repair and maintanance:
PDF from Marconi States:
POTS, ISDN and data services are overlaid on the existing copper pairs, so disruption to your network is minimal – no recabling, no number changes and no manual NT installation. This helps to make the very best use of your limited capital budget at a time when every penny counts.
Also with regards to maintenance an upgrading
This is what makes Access Hub HDD easy to update and reconfigure as needs change, allowing you to keep equipment lifetime costs to a minimum

A case study done in 2000 for a company to roll out ADSL, and money made from 200 users all costs included. $700 000 Profit after 1 year! Please note that many of the costs involved would not be viable to telkom because they refer to connecting up to the incumbant.. who telkom is so scrap those costs.

Now while prices for equipement have come down since 2000, so have the monthly fee per user (internationally I mean you really cant include the small price reduction we have received as reduction, when compared internationally).. So I would guess that the $700 000 profit per year should still be valid, if not much more in telkoms case.. How many ADSL users are there now.. 100 000 do the math ayanda I hope telkom fires you first!

I'd like to go back to the previouse point of getting pressure from an overseas Telecoms giant such as BT or Cable and Wirless on this issue. Perhaps a detailed letter to a PR within these companies may give us the information to counter Telkoms claims.

Addition: Would it not be prudent to also ask for advice from the UK telecom watch dog Ofcom
