So every 5 years I go to the doc, then they take a blood sample and look for prostate malfunction.
Is this test enough or do one need to go to doc so he can feel the thing.

Oh the dreaded finger test. Not looking forward to that when my time comes.

Oh the dreaded finger test. Not looking forward to that when my time comes.

A few years ago (well; long ago) I saw my GP for some problem and, when he suggested that he check my prostate, I replied that, after reading about the side effects of surgery, I would prefer to hop the twig early and complete.

He looked at me over the top of his glasses and remarked that prostate surgery had produced a generation of impotent and incontinent men and he has never raised the subject again.

Not entirely on topic but I don't think there will ever be a cure for cancer because chemo and radiation therapy generate so much cash that a cure would effective kill the goose that lays the golden egg.

I'm not sure I understand this part of your post. Could I ask that you elaborate?

I've never had the test but I suppose I should probably consider getting over my fears and go for it one day.

It's really not that bad, takes a minute (if that) and you don't really feel much.

Ah... A natural :D

Depart suddenly or die

Thanks :) It's the "complete" part that threw me. In hindsight I assume he means "in one piece" (i.e. no bits removed).

I just figure that if I don't really know what someone means and I'm interested in what they have to say, to ask :D

Ask the receptions whether they can do an ultra-sound inspection. Between that and blood test things should be cool.

Once there is a hint of something not being right...expect rubber glove. And unless your insecure or something you'll deal with that fine too...its just a medical test.

Thats not true. Cancer is fundamentally different & tricky compared to other diseases. Somewhat like going to battle against the enemy with warpaint on your face vs trying to figure out who the double-agent is.

Still some advances have been made (mainly on the HPV front if I'm not mistaken)

Fair question.

hop the twig = die
complete = with all the essential bits in place as originally issued.

Call me old fashioned but I'm just not the type of guy that wants another guy's finger up my backside.
Pretty sure anyone that "wants" that can find a cheaper option than med specialist rates. The closest dodgy street corner can presumably undercut those rates.

When its balls to the wall time [*] to determine whether its cancer or not...well I'll leave that up to you. I've not been in that position but I know what I'd choose. (Took ultra low dose chemo tablets for a while...jikes even at low dose...the sooner I know about potential cancer the better). Still go for the ultrasound though. :p

[*] Fun fact: That expression is (believed) to refer to a fighter pilot flooring the throttle (ball on throttle lever being pushed against the firewall).
