The ultra sound def exists...well either that or I got scammed for a pile of money by a registered urologist.

Seems the three differ quite a bit in what they "measure"/detect. e.g. The ultra sound should theoretically (only) detect swelling/inflammation, whilst the blood ones will likely detect cancer markers (afaik) but be unreliable on the swelling side (inflammation markers shoot up for all kinds of reasons). No idea what the finger ones can/can't detect....think swelling and texture maybe? Swelling & cancer may or may not be interlinked depending on the case so its tricky.

I guess you can try working out which tests you may need (lol), but personally I prefer the "find a respected doc, drop a pile of cash & trust his judgement" option...especially with things down there. I'm a pretty good internet pretend-doc but I'm not stupid...

My grandfather survived prostate cancer. They implanted those little radioactive seeds into his prostate and he went into remission. Since then he has had skin cancer on the lip and then that was sorted. Many years later he got cancer in the throat and this was cut out and radiation and chemo was done .... but a year later when he went for his scan again he was riddled with cancer everywhere. A few months later he was gone.

If a finger up your bum is what it takes to save your life, I suggest you get over it, breath in, breath out, relax and take it like a man. It really is not painful at all.

But there are other ways of testing also.

I see Clicks is selling home PSA test kits. Not sure how well they work though.

Discovery only pays for the test if you are over 50.
So that might be an indication ;)

edit: I see a lot of sites recommend from age 40

We are talking about a company/s that will look for any fcking excuse not to pay. Trusts me, no matter what they say, they do not have your best interests at heart.

I haven't gone for any tests before but developed some symptoms that was quite worrying for me

Here's what my doctor did:

1. Asked me what symptoms I had
High frequency of urinating, especially at night (6 -9 times at night). Always felt that my bladder was not empty....Sometimes a slight burning sensation when urinating

2. Noted this down on his computer. Then told me that he's going to approach it through a process of elimination.
NO FINGER TEST NEEDED...because the symptoms alone tells him the gland will be enlarged...might be inflammation, infection, bacterial or viral influence.

3. First, urine test
Came out negative

4. Blood test for cancer
Came back negative....but in the meantime he gave me antibiotics and anti-inflammation tablets. Told me to use this for 10 days consecutively...if it does not rectify the problem he would give stronger antibiotics.

Call me old fashioned but I'm just not the type of guy that wants another guy's finger up my backside.
Go see a female doctor then :D

Edit: man, my posts get beaten on the regular. Fail for not reading through all pages.

This thread is still going on? Fukit, I'll give all of you chaps a free prostate check up if that's what you want.

PM me for directions, and bring a wooden bit to bite on.

Suck it up guys. It's important to have the probe. The blood test on its own is apparently not good enough. If women can go for an annual gynae check-up, then....
Don't be such sissies, take it like a woman.

I think woman should go for training on how to do it and what to feel for.....and then do it for their hubbies. Make it part of foreplay.
