Protect folders over a network

SyncBack works, you could try that.

On your pc, do you log in with a password? For testing, if you're keen, create a folder and only give yourself access. Then at your laptop you could try creating a batch file using the net use command and see if that works. It would need to look something like this:

net use \\<pcname or ip> <password> /user:<username>

you can type that into the command prompt or create a batch file by opening notepad, entering & filling in the above and saving it as .bat .

does anybody know of a sync app that ignores sharing, so i have to install it o n both PCs?
If its <2gb then dropbox would work. It can do LAN sync...if the firewalls aren't in the way. Its a pretty shtty solution though tbh.

Can't believe this is not working though. Lets take it from the top:

Restart both PCs, wait a couple of sec for the LAN stack to come online.

Get the administrator username and password for the PC that is sharing the stuff. Has to be admin...nothing else will do.

Double check that the sharing manager thing is off. And fix these things: http://i.imgur.com/k9F5L.png (This is on the sharing PC)

Go to the PC accessing it. Remove the saved LAN passwords for the LAN location in question. ( http://www.faqforge.com/windows/how-delete-saved-passwords-for-network-drives-in-windows/ )

Open an explorer. Do not try to access the PC directly (like \\MyPC\ ) you must access an admin share directly first \\MyPC\C$ (or whatever drive letter) that way you avoid getting logged in as guest & get access to the entire HDD remotely.
