First let me say I have been trawling Google alot for an answer to this, no such luck.

I have 2 Computers: a desktop and a laptop, both with Win7 Ultimate on, I have alot of folders shared for when I got to LANs and such, but there are a few folders I would like to keep private, and only access with my laptop. any ideas how I can do this?

Think you have to create same user account on your laptop on the other laptop with password and then assign folder rights to that user account.

thanks, I will give that a try

won't let me add account from other computers
Yup, you create a user on your computer called "noob" or something. Then the folders you want to share on the network you just give that user access to those folders and share that low level user.

When you try map the drive if it is password protected you just have to put in computer name the share is on\username on computer the share is on (e.g. computername\username ) to get access from your pc.

wait won't this stop my desktop automatically logging on? :(

yes ,but if you only create a user on the other computer and then when you map a drive like Astroturf said to the folder with the user and password you created on the other computer you dont have to create on on your PC :-)

I got the user accounts on both PC with exactly the same username and password, but I can just see the folder, not access it :(
(on user account name has 2 capital letters, windows won't let me change it because it says its the same)

The user needs to be on the PC sharing.

Also, fixing the security permissions will fix your problem. They are separate from sharing permissions.

I spent an hour messing with this again last night, no change!?

Wipe the sharing permissions & the security descriptors completely and set them up from scratch. Use "everyone" & give full permissions. Once that works scale back the permissions to what you need it to be.

Huh? Its a 2 min procedure.

Try this: Explorer->F10->Tools->Folder Options-> View ->Simple sharing wizard ->Off

Now you've got full control over the sharing & security. This might break existing LAN sharing functionality...so not sure if you want to do this.

Havoc I am using Windows 7 Ultimate...

I know. I just got the name wrong. Its called "use sharing wizard" in Win7. Same place & same thing.

Oh yes I forgot about that one :o it doesn't change any sharing though, just disables the right click share menu
