Protest Marches Not the Answer: Zille

Service delivery protest marches do not make any difference, DA leader Helen Zille said in Sterkspruit in the Eastern Cape on Friday.

"The truth is, protest marches rarely change anything because making a noise doesn't change a government."

She was speaking to residents after a tour of the ANC-run Senqu municipality.

Zille said when a municipal office was burnt down in September last year, it only made things worse for the rest of the town.

"Now you have to travel to Lady Grey to speak to the council. Toyi-toying has a place, when it is done peacefully, but the only way to bring about real change in a democracy is through your vote," she said.

In a service delivery protest in February this year, residents shut down the town for two weeks, demanding a stand-alone municipality which was not part of the Senqu municipality.

"It is no good voting ANC on Wednesday and toyi-toying on Thursday. You must vote for a different party."

She said many people wanted to live in Democratic Alliance-run municipalities because the party did its best to deliver services.

"In Cape Town, people are moving out of poverty because we invest more in services and infrastructure that benefit the poor than any other city in the country."

Zille said the DA wanted to close the gap between rich and poor.

The ANC in the Eastern Cape described Zille's visit as an opportunistic tour.

"As the ANC, we are watching her opportunistic visit with keen interest and we are not amazed by her acts of desperation," said provincial secretary Oscar Mabuyane.

"Our government, working with local stakeholders, is attending to the issues of Sterkspruit and there is no need for her to interfere on this issue."

Opportunistic? Of cause it's opportunistic what's wrong with that? If you didn't leave the opportunity for her she wouldn't have had the opportunity to make a fool of you. Farking up gives other parties an opportunity to show everyone how much you fark up, simple as that.

But she has led many protest marches over the years. What spin will she and her peeps put to this?

Her "spin" is simply this:
"It is no good voting ANC on Wednesday and toyi-toying on Thursday.
Stop bitching non stop about the party that you voted for yourself and continue to do so despite them not delivering on their promises.

Well tbh Zille is wrong, creating chaos, murder, mayhem, destruction has proved time and again that it does work.
Violence in this country gets you what you want. It is the ONLY time the ANC listen

Yeah, rather vote DA so they can control your life.
So who do you plan on voting for then?

If it was a case of the lesser of two evils (which it is not) then you should still be voting DA.

Yes, they will start by telling everyone that protests are a waste of time therefore they are not allowed. Then the army will be utilised to deal with the delinquent protesters. Then, to satistfy the delinquents, they will come up with a speaker's corner that will have strict rules for gatherings similar to those of Singapore.

So you will moan with bio about no alcohol being sold after 6pm but you defend all the anc corruption in the government corruption thread...? People who keep on voting anc and suffer completely deserve every little bit of it. Maybe once people have once again suffered enough then they will act.

This thread is about Zille who says that protests don't help.
