Protesters burn down clinic

I really tend to avoid these types of threads and I am not particularly clued up when it comes to matters political (I honestly only began paying a degree of attention when that maniac Malema entered the fray) but is there something that desperate people can do? I am certainly not condoning their actions, just curious what they are able to do realistically about airing their grievances.

Vote for another party? Take it up with representatives of other parties, get them involved so the ANC can see that their once loyal support base, is not so happy

Vote for another party?

What chance does an uneducated person have against the propaganda machine that is a massive political party?

This is what I mean by realistic, you and I may be able to see that there are problems with the ANC but is it reasonable to expect the very people being manipulated are able to see through the veil?

This is the part that burns my arse... pardon the pun:

The health department would provide a mobile clinic in the area as an interim measure to ensure health services continued.

They had a clinic. They were unhappy about service delivery issues and it was NOT related to the clinic.

So why burn it down?

And why provide temporary relief via a mobile clinic? Rubbish. They should be redirected to the next closest clinic.

Folks need to learn to accept accountability for their actions and also accept the consequences of said actions.

Surely, after 16 years, of very limited progress, people should start to ask questions, no matter how uneducated.

They should, absolutely, but then again... people are easily controlled and manipulated - Just a look at the world around us and at history, it seems, sadly, that people actually having a say and an understanding of the political systems in which they reside, is the exception, rather than the rule.

Anyway, I've now dipped my toe into a political thread, perhaps I'll have another go in a year or two. :p

“In the simplicity of their minds, people more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have such impudence. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and continue to think that there may be some other explanation.”

Let's call a spade a spade. That way we all know where we are standing.

I don't understand the rationalisation process that goes on with these "burn it all down" people.

"I don't like the level of service being supplied to my community. I will therefore ensure an improvement in the service levels by burning down the places that supply what little services I currently receive"

Next week they'll burn down a school in protest because they don't have a clinic.

Here's another... upset with train services not being on time? No problem!!! BURN THE TRAIN!!! Now it will NEVER be on time again.

Train services suspended after commuters set fire to carriages
Jun 4, 2010 11:26 AM | By Sapa
Train services in Randfontein, west of Johannesburg, have been suspended after angry commuters set alight train carriages

Passenger Rail Agency of SA spokeswoman Nana Zenani says the passengers' behaviour had put assets and employees at risk.

This means that as from this afternoon [Friday], Prasa will suspend train operations on that line until further notice.

"Passengers are advised to make alternative arrangements and to take note that no tickets will be sold for the Randfontein line," she said.

Angry passengers burnt down two carriages on Friday morning.

Police said the train was set alight when it was unable to proceed to Krugersdorp due to cable theft.

"They were angry that they will be late for work and set two carriages on fire," said police spokesman Warrant Officer Dennis Jones.

The fire was extinguished and a case of arson had been opened. No arrests had been made.

No, I have a much better idea! Let the people burn down Eskom and no, I did not use the word 'they' on purpose. Welcome to SA 2010. Banana Banana better win the SWC, otherwise the soccer stadiums will burn too :D PLEASE don't take my post seriously. I don't want a 'Incitement to Arson' case to be opened against me. - Pathetic -

This is why democracy cannot work in the 21st century. 3/4 of the world's population is uneducated and underdeveloped. The concept behind the movie "Idiocracy" is scary but a serious possibility ... Obviously not exactly as depicted in the movie, but uneducated people will always vote with their hearts and not use their votes discerningly. After all, a strong government is one that has a strong opposition. So in a SA situation where the ANC is so strong, it is essential that one votes for the strongest opposition, regardless if you actually support the party or not. If this were the case in 1958, the Nats would not have been able to take the vote from the coloured people or pass the apartheid laws.

With regard the burning of the clinic.. The ANC encouraged the people in the 70's and 80's to become ungovernable... They opened Pandora's Box, and now must deal with the consequences of their actions. Cause and effect.

Spot on. The wheel turns ....

Such as ? Certainly not the D.A.

If I'm black I know I'm not voting to get whitey in power. They saw how well we did with that last time.
