I'll have to give it a few days and see if the reboots return, as they are quite sporadic.

Well, it's been a few days without reboot, so safe to say the Host CPU type was the culprit.

You know what that means? Optiplex 3000 Thin Clients for sale!

At least now I know the hardware is OK, which means I can safely pass it along to the next homelabber. I have my eyes set on consolidating my services so I am going to grab an ASRock Deskmini X300w once I sell the two thin clients.

My OMV VM crapped the bed when i upgraded from 7 > 8 - my disks show up but my EXT4 file system is missing :-|

Even edited the conf file to change the UUID but nothing is working - admittedly i haven't tried too hard - but yeah very frustrating.

Backups? Does it at least boot to the grub rescue screen?

It boots all the way to the UI - just no sight of the EXT4 file system :-|

Dug out one of the original Hyper-V cluster servers, at work, from the early/mid-2010's (1U dual 6 core+HT, plenty memory; Intel whitebox server). Ordered some connectors and crimps to make a custom header to SATA (old ODD power header; yay for having the Technical Product Document in my archive) and routed a SATA cable to stick an SSD in the ODD bay. The front hotswap bays (3.5") got adapters I kept from my stash and more SSDs in a ZFS array.

Loaded it up with Proxmox 9.x and everything just works as expected, and pretty quick for what I have thrown at it.

So far, it's the a great proof-of-concept machine. Currently playing with Podman in an unprivileged Debian container (some challenges). Letting some git and deployment testing work happen there before I build a bigger/better container server on the production cluster for things that really shouldn't be full fat servers.
