its just a middleman server so you request stuff from server X and it goes through server Y

like this:

You -> Server Y -> Server X and Server X -> Server Y -> You

it means if theres certain forms of shaping and you have a guaranteed slice of bandwidth from a proxy you can get around it by using a priority port.

However you can't hype proxies up too muxh because they themselves can be packet shaped.

Clipse uses a VPN though which probably won't be packet shaped as a lot of business clients use it.
