Hi guys,

A while back I read about a good piece of proxy software in the forum. I did a few forum seaches and came up with blanks.
Can anyone suggest a good proxy software (opensource :D ) nothing to hectic, just for our local lan.
I currently use ezproxy, but lookin for something else.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Squid is actually really easy to install, esp the Windows one.

Just change a config file, and create the cache, then run as service.

I did some research a while back for other alternatives to Squid, will check when I get home.
 
I know im reviving a really old post here but my question is kinder related.Anyone know of a good proxy program that you do not have to pay for?
 
Opensource or not, I don't think you're going to get any better than Squid for HTTP Proxy... If you want socks and stuff like that, you'd need to look for something else...

I run squid on Linux, following this HOWTO I successfully installed it on Windows. If you can run Linux you can use various log analyzer tools which is great for bandwidth accounting. I further also use squid to block and remove adservers and banners from websites. It saves bandwidth since banners are not the smallest images on websites. Look in to bannerfilter on freshmeat.net
 
You can also have a look at Freeproxy, but I would suggest you go with Squid, as edc ^^^^ said, you can do proper bandwidth accounting with Squid than with Freeproxy.
