Hi
Looking for Help. My PC one year old. Core duo E6600
4 GB Ram 667 2 x 320 GB HD SATA 2 x SATA DVD Writers.
MOBO Intel DG 965 WH
It started to freeze. I exchanged the Aopen PS with a
Gigabyte 550 Watt Odin-GT nice PS with USB connection
to show all values of the PS. But I had the Memory tested,
one GB strip found faulty. Got it replaced by Rectron
no freezing anymore. But making a shutdown Vista 32 bit
it shuts down but after 4 to 6 seconds it starts again.
So I have to switch off the PS at the back for a shutdown.
Anybody having a solution what it could cause it?

Normally I would say it's the power supply, but I see you have a Intel branded board. Intel boards since the good-old-days of the 865 and 875 have gone downhill. Much higher returns and strange power related issues like you are experiencing. it might not be a faulty board, but a faulty BIOS (faulty by design).

Try updating the BIOS.

DO this on the motherboard where your pins was inserted check with your user manual if all is ok..example the reset switch power..etc
your plugs/pins could be wrong inserted on the motherboard

Could be a connection shorting when the power goes off, still I just hit the power button on my PC if I want to switch it off otherwise It has been one for 3 weeks :) * I DL 24/7/365 *

Restart instead of shutdown

I updated the Bios latest version. It still restarts after say 5 seconds. I installed it by myself, yes.

Maybe some Wake-on-LAN function thats doing something odd here? Don't know, just a hunch - random stab in the dark. :D

Edit: I checked, that motherboard has Wake-on-Freakin'-almost-anything! Check your settings in the Bios Arko2. :)

Restart instead of Shutdown

I disabled USB Boot Lan wakeup etc. I don't think it is
the Mobo. Rather the Power Supply. But I like it more
than the Aopen, less cables and all cables are
connected at the PS with connectors. Except the Mobo
connector and the USB connector. It also shows all
usage in Watt, currents, voltages and temp. So I rather
get used to switch it off at the back. Until I find the reason for not doing a proper shutdown. But Thanx
for the assistance.

Re-check the power and reset cables to the motherboard, the + and - must be correctly plugged in.

Could also be a sign that a driver is hanging on shutdown. Windows senses the crash and restarts rather than shutting down. Try booting into Safe Mode and then shut down to see if it does it properly. If so, you may have to isolate the driver that is hanging. Also check your setting for "automatic restart on system failure" - may be related.

Do you have a wireless card/device plugged in or installed - you may have to manually stop the device before shutting down, or tweak the wake settings for it.

You can try this too:
1) Start > Control Panel > Power Options > High Performance
2) Start > Control Panel > Device Manager > Keyboards > select your keyboard > right click + Properties > Power Management > make sure the box is unchecked for "Allow this device to wake the computer"
3) Start > Control Panel > Device Manager > Mice and other pointing devices > select your mouse > right click + Properties > Power Management > make sure the box is unchecked for "Allow this device to wake the computer"
4) Close Device Manager window
5) Start > Shutdown
-- some mice and keyboards draw a small amount of current from the PSU, even when the PC is switched off...

Did you recently install any MS updates?
Could also be some sort of Malware?

Have had the same problem on one of my PC's for some time

Tried everything

Only thing that works is turning it off at the wall for a few seconds after it shuts down .
It then doesnt restart when you turn the wall socket on again.

If you dont turn it off at the wall for a few seconds, it then just restarts itself after a few seconds

Restart instead of shutdown

Thanx but connecting the other PS it works. So I've
checked all possibilities. Every week I got upgrades
from MS so far I never had a problem.
I only hate if things start up when it should stay off.

Btw, it's called a PC (Personal Computer), not a PS...

For reset & power it doesn't matter which way they go, as in order for the switch to work, it just shorts the 2 pins. The pinout matters for LEDs and for the speaker, but not for the switches.

Also the correct acronym for Power Supply is PSU as in Power Supply Unit. :p
