Hey guys!

Anyone else having an issue with installing the latest PS3 update?

I downloaded the latest update and let the PS3 do its thing, but it kept failing during the installation process. Eventually it gives up and says to disconnect the power, leave the console for a bit and then try again. When you start the console up it just carries on trying to install and keeps failing.

I tried downloading the update from the Sony website and do a USB update - that didn't work.

I pulled out the HDD, formated it and tried to install the software again - that didn't work.

I stripped open the PS3 and removed the CMOS battery, for a while, and re-inserted it - that didn't work.

Tried to get into Safe Mode - that's not working or showing up.

According to the PS3 website the error code means that it's a Bluetooth/WLAN error and I need to install the latest system update - ja, that's not working O.o

I've been trying to find a previous version, unhacked, of the PS3 firmware, but haven't had any success.

Any ideas? Anyone have older versions of the PS3 firmware I can try? Think the system will let me go as far back as v3.73.

Thanks

I had issues updating from my vodacom router, had endless problems. After reading online, I used a different isp at a friends house (telkom) and it worked.

Thanks for the input. I don't think that is the issue though, since I have managed to download the file successfully from the PS3 website on my PC. I have been trying to install the update from a flash drive. However, I will see if I can download the PUP file again using a different ISP, just to be on the safe side.

Yeah maybe a corrupt copy on their cache servers. No issues upgrading my 160 slim to 4.00.

Nope, still no joy. Formatted the HDD and started with a fresh firmware file (v4.00) and I still get the error round 48%.

Any other ideas? I'm wiling to pull the main board out and flash chips if need be. Anyone have an older version of firmware, say 3.72 or 3.73 that I could try? Otherwise it's going to make a great door doorstop until the next firmware release comes out for me to try.

No issues here. On 4.11 now.
Did you try and download the latest firmware from the Internet and used a USB drive/stick to upgrade?

Well, this 8002F1F0 code sounds like a generic error, since each user had a different solution to fix it. I bought my PS3 november last year and so far I did 5 system updates. Two of them gave the 8002F1F0 error (yes, lucky guy I am ): the second and the last update.

I don't know how I solved the first time, since I tried a lot of things and the problem somehow was fixed (but I can say for sure that pulling HDD out DIDN'T work).

For the last update error, I conected the controller on USB and I tried the Safe Mode described in this link:

Instead of entering safe mode, it tried to do the update again, but this time the update worked. Maybe was this procedure that fixed the first update error too, but I can't say for sure.

If you cannot get to the main menu and do not have a back up, there is nothing you can do to back up the save. Downloading the update on to a USB stick and using safe mode option 6 to install the update would be my suggestion and provided this goes through this should have no affect on your saved data

See if you have a game that requires and installs an older (than current) firmware version. Or are you unable to access the XMB at all even when you format the drive?
