:( I require assistance with regard to repairing my PS2 (not slimline). It has been modified, however the games work but my dvd player does not work.

It is hard finding anyone who could assist me with the repairs esp. in Midrand, where I am living.

If its chipped, try disabling the chip before playing the movie. My console gives me a "incorrect disc" thingy when my chips enabled and i try to play a dvd. Disabling the chip does the trick.

Yea you can check on the chip manufacturers website. There usualy is a procedure you go through to disable the chip. Either that or its gonna be a manual procedure. Mine for example involves holding the power button for 3 seconds longer etc etc.

I suggest you repair the thing yourself. It quite easy...you will need:

1 x screw driver
1 x soldering iron
1 x roll of lead soldering
1 x jar of peanut butter
1 x bright yellow raincoat
1 x pair of yellow gumboots
1 x umbrella
1 x broken playstation

Step 1: Put on the raincoat, gumboots and open the umbrella.
Step 2: Put on the shower, being careful not to make it too hot
Step 3: Get into the shower, using the umbrella to make sure you don't get your playstation 2 wet.
Step 4: Using the screwdriver, open up the PS2, still beig careful not to get it wet.
Step 5: Once the PS2 is open, use the soldering iron to spread a liberal amount of peanut butter over the inerds of the PS2making suer to coat the DVD laser quiet well. Also be sure to get the peanut butter all over the DVD tray.
Step 6: Carefully throw the screws you took out of the PS2 down the drain and use the lead soldering wire to tightly close the PS2 by wrapping it around the PS2.
Step 7: CLose the tap and step out of teh shower
Step 8: go buy a Nintendo console

(Sorry guys...couldn't resist!!! You might have gathered I dont like Sony very much?!!?!?)

Natas thats pretty lame

Curtis is you know what chip it has it will help a lot

Dirty scum, spawn of evil rotten maggot modder besides . . .

if it's poked you're better off just going and buying a cheap DVD player for ~R300-400, it'll be the same price as the repair and a better player (PS2 DVD is c@rp)

No I don't know the chip type. I had it done in Cape Town some time back.

Oh I do not intend doing this myself as I am not very mechanical with my hand. Can anyone recommend prof.that I could contact.

In Cape Town this would have been performed much more easily.

You guys are taking the crap out of me. I have got a dvd player and a cheap one at tha, but it is not the point. Do you want to have a car with a broken tape. Does not make sense does it.

All I need is a few reference come on guys lend a hand this is the gaming head office isn't it?

I am sure you will be helping many a new recruit even from the crime ridden place of Cape Town.

I think it has to do with activating and deactivating your chip...

Instead of pressing the reset button once try twice or vice versa

ATI thanks for the advice it is appreciated i will give it whirl.

In the mean time does anyone know who does repairs though?

We are just taking the mickey out of you because there are many anti-piracy advocates on this forum. You can't compare it to a car unless you illegally modified the car.

You should be taking it to Sony, but wait you can't because you illegally modified it. See the point?

It also might help to tell us where in South Africa you are? It's a big place and all we have is that you are no longer in CT.

I am guessing JHB, if you are near Brightwater Commons check their flea market for someone.

yeah try pressing reset twice thats wat i have to do to play dvds on mines.......and i have to reset it once to play the games

Thank you

Thanks it is appreciated. I will take your advice and try to get the old geyser fixed. I will keep you informed of the outcome.:)

I am currently staying in Midrand.

I dont think your laser is at fault thow because its still playing your games. All I can imagine is that you need to disable your chip when you play the dvds.

Did it work before and then stopped working?

That's correct. It was working initially and somewhere down the line it sopped.
