Calling Maestro_za:

A mate of mine's PS3 stopped reading discs. I went through the Forums and found a suggestion to format the memory, as it seems to work. We have tried this, but nothing has worked. Is this problem fixable? and if so, what is the estimated costs? He stays in PMB - KZN and will have to get the macine to you.

Thanks

Contact Sony - find out who does the local service for the PS3, and take your PS3 in for repairs. Worst case scenario is that you'll need to pay for the repair. If the the PS3 is still under warranty you should get a swap out.

They are in Durban and have repaired many friends' PS3's. Possible that the BD drive is stuffed.

If you have the old 60GB/20GB ps3 with backward compatibility, make sure your old PS3 discs are not scratched or worn. This could lead to laser degradation.

Good luck.

Their reply has been : Swop out for a replacement, R2500.00

It is a 60 Gig, so will keep that in mind.

Thanks

Sent u a PM. The console needs to be sent to me quickly as I'm closing soon.

Getting a swap out is a cop out in my opinion. The vast majority of issues for on any give platform can be repaired to give you reliable service for some time to come.
