PS3 error 80710723

So I have never played online and thought I would give it a go but I keep getting the above mentioned error. I insert the disc, select multiplayer and then get prompted to install the lastest software in order to play online.

The download will start and after a while just stop and then that error message appears. I have try numerous times but it never finishes. My PS3 is connected (wired) to a switch, which is connected to a TP Link W8960N router runnimg a 1meg line.

Anyone know how to solve this issue? The PS3 has the latest firmware installed.

Who is your ISP?

This error indicates there is a network issue and I've found most of the time its with the ISP. I always test with my free 1GB Afrihost account when I get this error.

Check a different, more modern, game.

If it still persists then its a general network failure with PSN (not uncommon)

ISP is telkom. I did a small 34meg update and that worked fine but when it comes to games it all goes to ****.
 
Which game does it do this with?

I eventually had to uninstall GT5 (backed up progress first of course) and reinstall from scratch - was not ISP 'cos I tried 3 or 4 (via ADSL and via 3G connection on Nightowl)

What sometimes happens is that the game servers are not yet updated for the latest firmware and will kick you off till they do. Usually this is only for a day.

I'm also on Telkom and never had issues with them.

Im trying this with Uncharted 2 so its not such an old game I think.
 
I just tried it again and it stopped again with the same mother****ing error code. Im getting so gatvol of this ****.

Have you tried uninstalling and deleting all the save games of the game you are trying to update?

Also, I set the DNS on my router to OpenDNS which seemed to make things more stable as well.

PS: The really frustrating thing is that you can't download any game patch files on a PC and update via USB (unlike the PS3 console firmware updates)

Feel your pain, been there.
 
Have not tried the above. If you don't mind could you explain to me how to delete it and what the openDNS settings are please?
 
Will give it a go thanks. When I try the DNS option, do I need to change it on the router on the PS3? I'm just scared I need to change it on the router and it messes with my media server etc. But I will delete all the saved games first.
 
I have the sme problem regularly. Telkom ISP. I didnt think it will work but best results are to Sync trophies. it still bombs but much less. I have tried port forwarding- Didnt work. deleting data starting from scratch didnt work.
its worth a try.

To configure OpenDNS you need to be comfortable going into your router maintenance pages

What type of router do you have?

OpenDNS have fairly easy to use tutorials on how to setup.

I have a tp link w8960n router. I deleted all traces of the game. Started it up, it did a 20meg download update without problems and then it started to download the update which usually fails. Will see what it does now.

Ok I changed the DNS settings like in the youtube video. Synced trophy collection. Lets see if this works because I am getting closer at throwing this thing away.
 
take a break look at it tomorrow. it took me a complete month to download updates for gt5 as it bombeb continously. especially near the end of the big updates.
 
Bombed out again. This is ****ing stupid!!!!!!!!!
