PS3 error 80710723

take a break look at it tomorrow. it took me a complete month to download updates for gt5 as it bombeb continously. especially near the end of the big updates.

I had the exact same problem - couldn't play for weeks until I had deleted all traces and it fixed the problem.

@OP, do you have the PS3 connected directly to your router via ethernet cable? I just remembered that I did that as well in the end (wif a very long cable :D - router is on the other side of the house) - even though I had decentish wifi connection.

I will disable the firewall although im not sure where on the router to do this.

My ps3 is connected ti a switch which is connected to the router. All via cable.

Disable all firewall settings on your router

Cant seem to change firewall settings on the router or its hidden very very very well.

I noticed now that it bombs out most between 30% and 37%.

Wait till you run into this code 80029564.. Anyway.. I assume it's one of those downloads that can't run in the background? I had this issue with a LBP2 update. Do you have a PS+ Membership? If you do you can set PS to download all game patches/updated in the background and install them later(I ussually set mine during after hours). The patched/update will then appear under your downloaded games list and you can just install it from there :).

Hope it works for you.

Thanks for this tip - will remember for future.

Bummer is having to spend money on PS+ membership just to get a patch for a game you've already paid for - the ability to download game patches in the background should be a standard feature.

On the plus side, PS+ membership does have some other nice benefits.

Yeah Im new to this whole online thing so dont really know what ps+ is. I didnt try to play online today but I might try again tomorrow. Thanks for the help thus far guys.

What worked for me was allocating a static IP for the PS3 on the router and then putting putting it on DMZ on the router.

Seems like while updating your game data got corrupt.

What worked for me is deleting the game data for the game (gt5). ps. do NOT delete the save game.
Next, check if there are any corrupted save games and delete those.
Try to do your update now - worked for me.

If that fails, hold power button when switching on, then do a restore (fixes corrupt files).

Their is no working solution for this problem

Ive been having this same problem with trying to download a patch for my game for 3 weeks now.

None of the above solutions work and if you had this problem then you would already know that.

It seems there is no working solution.

Ive searched the web like crazy and read every blog and forum related to this error code and ive looked on the sony playstation site and tried there reccommendations to no avail.

What I have tried:

static ip address on router, playstation and every computer device in a 1 km radius.
Disconnectin every device from the router exept the ps3
phoning activision the battlefield3 makers
phoning d-link the router manufacturers
phoning telkom;
resetting port
resetting speed
new dns server 196.43.54.190/196.43.54.190
tried google dns both on router and ps3
proxy-now disabled via latest ps3 update
ethernet cable direct to modem
uninstalled game
formatted ps3 hard drive
installed the premiere content from ps store before trying download
disabled firewalls
put ps3 into dmz

none of that works.

Untill recently i actually was not ever able to download the entire 2gigg patch it kept failing during the actual download.

then i discovered that if i connected my pc to the router at the same time and streamed a radio station live it would keep the connection open and the download would not fail (genious)

but guess what, the download completes succesfully but the installation of the patch fails and then the installed game files all become corrupted and have to start all over again.

this sucks, i really don't understand why so many people have this problem but there is no actual working solution on the net.

look at the date on this post and if you have found a solution before this date then ive tried it and it doesnt work.

If you have had this exact problem and found a revolutionary solution, then please please please let me know.

I changed to Telkom Internet this month, get the same error very very often at various times of day (especially after 6pm).
Don't recall this problem on 18months with mweb.... Telkom issue?

Guys, try using an IS based account. Believe me, I ran into this exact same issue back in the day with GT5's patches. The only thing that worked in the end was to use an IS based account. It worked first time without any issues. Buy yourself a capped 1 or 2GB IS account from an ISP. I suggested this for someone also here on MyBB and at first they didn't want to believe me, after he tried it out and it also worked for him.

If I can find his thread, I'll link it here, but it most definitely will work. :)

Sorry for the late reply. Firstly, I dont have another account, only telkom. I would also not like to circumvent the problem but rather fix it.

So it seems as if this might be a telkom problem although im not 100% sure.

We tested this problem extensively and we could not really get a solution.
It wasn't confined to any ISP. We tested most of them, including IS based accounts.
We suspect that corrupt copies on the cache servers are to blame.
It is a fact though that it does help to either try a different ISP for the download or even at a different location, ie friends house, at work, etc.

GT5 was particularly bad with regards to this and was used in our testing.
What did sometimes help was to setup your PS3 to dl via a proxy. The file was not actually downloaded to the pc and and then to the PS3 as it was originally attended.

Ps3 was just routed through the pc and still downloaded directly to the PS3.
It did not always work, but it did have some good results.

I'm with TI and had the problem only for a limited period when TI had some changes to the network somewhere around February / March.
Before that period and since then I never had the issue, including with GT5 updates.

Are you doing the update via wifi?

No its wired to the switch and the switch is wired to the router.

Well I had a problem with uncharted 2, tried maybe 10 times. Not cool when there are 9 files to download and it constantly fails at 4/9. Under game data it shows a corrupt file, always 1.04 and always 123mb. I therefore assume file 4/9 is corrupt on psn.

This kind of thing happens quite a lot on the bigger files, it's unfortunate that it starts from file 1/9 even though the first 3 download and install just fine. Sony ****, they never been good with finishing touches, just look at the difference in finish between Sony and samsung led televisions for example.
