PS3 in a Death Spiral

The PS3 is not a bad console; its just overpriced and that is what is fueling the huge negative sentiment against it. I mean frankly speaking the ps3 in my opinion looks worse than the 360, but the 360 is far far cheaper.

How true your words are!:)

Yeah Telkom advertises kbits, divide by 8 to get kbytes. Technically that's the way, but practically you actually divide by about 10 due to overheads.

So it is bits that they advertising and not bytes?

In South Africa you can safely assume the denomiation which will inflate the speed to a large value so it sounds faster than it is ;). So when in doubt, just think "this is South Africa, what's the odds that we will be getting 384 kiloBYTES per second speeds if they can give us 384 kiloBITS per second at the same crazy price?"

384 kilobytes = 3072 kilobits = 3 Mbits . Trust me, they will advertise it as 3 Mbits, not 384 kiloBytes , MEGA sounds alot faster than KILO ;)

You can prove this?
I dont need to, its obvious you can't buy a smart/knowledgeable person's opinion. Given the choice, it would seem most dev houses would prefer to take on a X360 project than a PS3 one. Sure Sony could throw humungus amounts of cash at them, however a business unit thats already loosing money hand-over-fist on hardware is not going to be able to sustain subsidising the sw development as well.
you must be an 360 fan!
No I'm a fan of rational, intelligent decision making.

Add the Blue ray disc to the X360 and see whats the price then! Sony will bring out the cheaper version at a later date! Smaller drive etc. Sony will not die they will fix it IMHO. The winner will be the one that is most compatible with PC functions and interfacing on the end IMHO.

In the eye of the beholder, Want to buy a bigger mirror? :D
If you believe spelling = intelligence, I've fixed it for your benefit.

You do realise were talking about "GAMES" consoles ... thought the games would actually get a mention in deciding the winner.

Dunno if that is even relevant anymore (for the most part). Recently there have been reports of developers of previously Sony exclusive game series planning to release on both PS3 and 360 (most notable rumors are Final Fantasy and Tekken)

If the above is true, it means that not only are gamers loosing faith in Sony, but so too are the game developers. Personally i would love to see it happen...i've been far too annoyed by exclusive titles in the previous gen.

MS are selling units at a PROFIT, Sony are making a huge loss.

Are you serious??? Do you actually believe that or are you just typing anything that comes into your head?

The original Xbox was sold at a loss and also the 360. Everybody knows that! Oh, except you...

When Microsoft got into the console game in 2001, much was made of the fact that it lost an estimated $125 per console on each Xbox.

Microsoft is again losing around $125 per hard-drive-equipped unit of its brand-spanking-new console, the Xbox 360.

Well that's why XBOX 360 came out with an external HD-DVD drive. If HD-DVD fails, they change to Blu-Ray. Still offers the same HD functionality without changing the design of the console. If Sony would change their Blu-Ray to DVD then it will cost them a lot of money to change it. MS basically offers an option to choose; PS3 forces the format on you.

The PS3 will really only become a good console in around 3 years time when developers actually know how to program effectively for the Cell CPU and costs of developing software for the PS3 is lowered. Unfortunately by the time, the next gen of consoles by Nintendo and MS will be out which will prob be superior than the PS3.
