PS3 modchip/jailbreak here

It's a Chinese invention. Ozmodchips and Modsupplier are purely the first reseller to get stock of it. I had a chat via e-mail and they received their stock from a Hong Kong supplier that is going to have it distributed worldwide via an official reseller network.

It's legit but way too pricey in my opinion!

The current jailbreak is locked to the USB pen drive soon to be sold by the above mentioned suppliers. It also has a firmware update blocker built in so first make sure you're on FW 3.41 before getting this device, you cannot downgrade at this point in time :D

I'm sure there will be clones down the line but this is it for now.

Thats the most ironic thing I have ever heard... The pirate's are protecting their intellectual property LOL

So now we wait for some one to crack their crack.
 
Firmware blocker? In my understanding, then PSN / Sony need create a firmware update that does not recognize previous versions, which will then not allow access to PSN if you do not have the latest firmware, therefore, you can have your hacked playstation and then have to buy a second unit to access PSN / Online gaming. And then when 500 000 people have bought a second unit, then release another hidden update in one of their most popular games, sold at cost, so you play it on your hacked unit too, which then renders the hacked unit useless. Flippin brilliant. Could have been developed by Sony themselves...
 
Having the console hacked this way means that online usage is not going to work once 3.44 or higher is mandatory. However the team that develops the jail break will bring out updates when needed. Its about dissecting changes Sony makes with each subsequent official firmware. Cat & mouse!

I think the next development for online gaming with backups is when the PS3 Blu Ray drive is hacked so that custom firmware can be installed (a la Xbox 360). Meaning that you can keep up to date with system updates and then needed custom drive firmware updates to keep ahead.

I personally would like the hypervisor to be hacked for homebrew (a la JTAG 360) as it would be nice to have full access to the system which as of now isn't possible. There are certain repair situations now where if I could transplant the CPU key to a reconditioned board, a bricked PS3 console could be salvaged!

Current hacks are more geared towards backup games to be honest
 
The pesky youtubers are releasing the backup_manager.pkg file which is available from the psjailbreaker site under downloads (lol @ those that put passwords ala youtube download links). You can install the manager but offcourse need the real USB in to backup the games. I am trying to find a modsite that is selling this thing that i can pay via paypal. Anyone know please letme know via PM or here :D . its for personal and not reseller use.

alot of peeps confirming it legit but i would love to see a more reliable big name to confirm this ...

next obvious question will be ... where to download it from ? will it work on a normal usb drive ?

I don't think it'll work off a stock standard USB drive based on what I've read...but I could be wrong.
 
I'll wait and see if we get any local resellers, and also if sony manage to patch the exploit. If the exploit proves to be updateable in order to get around new sony fixes I'd be more likely to get one.

It will not be too long before it's available here. Everyone has been waiting too long for this. Will be nice to "save wear and tear on the laser". lol

agreed, but if sony manage to break it with one firmware update, it'll be a be a waste of cash, so i'm going to hold off a while and see what happens.

True, but that will only be a problem for people who plays online. Or at a later stage when new games comes out that needs new firmware and that doesn't happen very often.

I do use psn/online gaming quite a lot. It would be annoying to me to be locked out of psn.
