PS3 price cuts in 2009?

i doubt it, probably give us more "package" deals, but with the decreasing number of shops selling xbox consoles this will be the year of the ps3.....in SA atleast.

Who doesn't sell it besides Toy's R Us? Also they can't cut the PS3 price anymore. They already making a loss on every unit sold. For gaming the xbox360 is still king, PS3 is a home entertainment system!

I got a 40GB PS3 from Toyzone for R3899 (with an additional controller) and that was a really good price.

I doubt whether the price cuts would happen in SA - since every other price cut only affected Europe and the US. :(

Don't we follow the European pricing?

I got the same one from Kalahari.

Our prices are based on the EU prices - so if theirs drop, ours will eventually drop as well. Might not be immediate but it will drop.

I guess Sony needs to crawl out of its R10bn loss somehow. Dropping console prices is the way to go. Because then you catch consumers with expensive games.

Id the price does indeed drop than it might be worth buy even if only to play God of War 3 and the new FF.

Sony would never do that!

My local video stores will still rent them out for R30 a day :D

you can buy a ps3 with lbp on www.shopto.net if they charge you vat it will be R4500. (not sure about shipping[made it 10 pounds] but it's an awesome deal)

Up until a few months ago, Sony was losing about $290 on every console sold. It was costing around $690 to make, and they were selling it for $400.

They recently managed to get the production cost down to jsut $450, so now they are only losing $50 on every console sold.

I would not be supprised if they dropped the price. $300 is the sweet spot, and if they go that low their sales will go crazy because the PS3 is currently perceived as an expensive home entertainment system. Its like if They started selling BMWs for R80000, every man and his dog would buy one...

I think if they drop to $300, 2009 will most definatly be the year of the PS3

Unfortunately not without a loss to the consumer. Apparently the PS3 (60GB Model) used to have 4 USB ports, backwards compatibility with PS2 games, a card reader for camera's etc... and a host of other stuff that has just been removed. Maybe thats how they dropped production costs...

It is a good blu-ray player I agree. Also for the xbox360 if you get RROD it's free to swop it out. The couriers actually come to you with a new one.
