PS3 Price Dropping!!

Marketing ploy? Great product great price.

Consumer starts to believe all their goods are cheap when in fact...

Think they call it a loss leader promotion. Sounds great but fine print says (5 per store) and now we all discuss how good company x is.

Good luck to those who got it at that price, to the rest of us don't buy into the marketing.

Each store had about 5. Their warehouse still has stock but the new price is
R5500

In Dubai the price cheapest i saw was R4800 for the 60GIG...

Without extra controller

Just to give you guys an idea of how we are being ripped off here...

I just got back from Hong Kong on Saturday and decided I was gonna get a PS3 there... Sure, its NTSC, but that only effects movies really and if i really wanted a movie bad enough then i would just order it from the net for cheaper anyway..

The price for the 40gig version, ranged from R2600 to R3400 at different shops. The lower end of the price range apparently did not have Wi-Fi built in etc, so must have been an early model.

I picked up mine for R3000 (silver), paid R200 for the HDMI cable and then got a Dualshock 3 controller for R450. I saw one cheaper at Toys R Us the next day for 2800.. and i am sure i could have found it even cheaper if i had more than an afternoon in town to look around..

I also got GTA4 there for R450... thats almost half the price I have seen it at here since i got back...

I cant see how the same basically the same console can cost almost R2500 here. It just does not make sense to me...

anyone know if this special is still - there's nothing on their web site about it. looks like they now have a xbox360 special :(

but dude, why would you even consider a PS3?
If you want to play single campaign games, then, sure go for it, but if you to play with the rest of the world multiplayer online, then xbox wins hands down!

Incredible corruption had a great special - Was like R4400 with 3 games...
Maybe see who or if anyone will be selling them at at the computer faire in 2 weeks time.....if Sony were at that crappy digital life faire I'm sure they will be at the computer faire

I'm pretty sure u can play online with a PS3

online with PS3 = driving a horse and cart
online xbox360 = driving a lexus (or merc, bmw, or jag)

yeh they both take you from A - B, just not in the same style

I agree that Live rocks(well at least in other countries) but what makes PSN so bad(horse and cart)?

dunno the technical reason behind it, ask the gurus.
live rocks here as well, if you can get onto a local game.
ok maybe horse and cart was a bit drastic...will upgrade to scooter

lol.. nah its more like a toyota corolla. It does the job and its reliable.

The biggest difference between PSN and Live is the ingame communication. This is where the PS3 is a Horse and Cart

That's a bit harsh ;) It's more like comparing a Lexus and a Tata.

About the best I can do is just "Integration". Think of it like this, Each PSN game runs on it's own, on it's own servers, with it's own rep system, with it's own comms, a lot like PCs i guess.

Xbox Live is one platform, one set of services and servers. You can send messages and communicate across games, in game, via text and voice, in every single game, exactly the same way. Then there's the cross game invites, Friends of Friends and the other networking stuff that just makes getting into a game at any time an absolute breeze.

The 'soft' factor with XBL is the community. The SA community is huge and active online, on any given night you're sure to find someone playing something you like (or Gears of war. There's always Gears of War ;) ) And it's all done through the Xbox, there's no having to arrange games in advance or anything like that.

If I wanted to know where I could get a cheap xbox 360 from I would ask. Afaik with the ps3 there's no monthly fees for playing online. With the 360 you need to subscribe and you need to use an America CC or buy vouchers. Thats not on.

Thanks for that.. Always wanted to know why Live is said to be the best.

The Local PS3 community is growing and u can find someone to play online. The thing that really annoys me with the PS3 is that there is no in game communication so if u playing something else and someone sends u a message u need to quit the game to reply.

In terms of lag there are games that suffer(PES 2008 commes to mind but i hear its the same with the 360) but other games run smooth as silk. All local games are lag free.

So live trumps PSN with its superior social networking
