Hey Guys,

Once again, I'm back to ask another question about the PS3 ;)

Ok, as far as I've heard, PS3 games will all be region free..however, the blu-ray discs themselves will not be.

As far as this goes, I'm very confused.

Ok, so say I bought my PS3 in South Africa, would I be able to play a game purchased in America? Because surely if the games are region free, but the discs aren't, this just cancels out the idea completely.

Have I got these facts right, or am I just really confused :o

Any help much appreciated

No your info is correct. Any game, only ZA (EU?) BR discs.

Just remember - regions are applied by the publishers, so while most (all?) PS3 games are region free it is possible for a developer to implement a lock if they so chose. I don't know if anyone has done that yet though. There was a rumour about stranglehold, but I think they backed down after users complained.

On that note, what games are you getting/got?
I'm waiting for the new tekken. I have Motor Storm and it is dissapointing.

Yeah, I think I'm also gonna go for the new Tekken and then I can't wait for that new Ratchet and Clank (one of my favorite series of games) :D

But, now the problem I've come upon is that my PS3 is from Hong Kong :o
(same region as north and south America)
So, unless I purchase games online, it would seem that I have to order my games online and get them imported from america... :)

Oh well...I guess thats the price you pay for buying a PS3 for cheap :D

I think you are confused. The disc itself will never be region restricted

What is put on the disc may be restricted though.

At the moment no PS3 games are restricted so you can buy locally with no problems...

Well, I guess I shall have to see what happens...
lol, it would suck if I bought a new game and really want to play it, insert the disc and get "oh dear, incorrect region" :p

As I understand it, the games are region free but the Blu-Ray MOVIES are region locked. So you can play games from anywhere, but have to buy movies from the same region as your console.

I'm not sure if this applies to regular DVD's and PS2 games, but I'm pretty sure they are region locked (note that the Euro PS3 will not play PS2 games without a patch).

Hi!
Can I ask, what patch?
I have an Euro PS3, and I'd like to be able to play games bought from America. Anyone who knows, if there's anything that I can do to my PS3, so it will work?
Also with PS1 games. I have one of those from America, but it won't work because of those "regional restrictions". Anything I can do about it?

All PS3 games are region free, i.e you can get anygame from anywhere and play it on any PS3. Only Blu ray movies are region locked.
