PS3 release tonight - Launch Details and Numbers

Stopped in at N1 city Hifi Corp. They had loads of PS3s available. Saw lots of people buying car speakers. I even walked out with a new dustbin.

Lot's of shops are stacked with empty PS3 boxes, same as when the PSP was released. Doesn't mean they have stock though. CNA in TygerValley was out of stock on Saturday afternoon. GAME had 2 left.

Haha, I think the other thread kinda covered that one already Gav ;)
Tho I'm quite surprised ole JK8 isn't getting one tonight. Maybe its the price....

Nope! I read somwhere you will need the appropiate intelect to play the PS3.

Yep record breaking, still didn't manage to sell out though :P

lol, that sums up the thinking of the average 360 fanboy. Doesn't matter how well the PS3 will ever do, they will always find a reason to say something bad about it... :)

I heard on the radio last night that SK has sold 95% of it's PS3 stock already... It was only a sound bite so I have no more info than that.

It could be 95% sold to shops or 95% sold to consumers, I wouldn't imagine SK kept any stock at all for the launch so I am going to presume it is sold to consumers which is a fantastic feat.

They allegedly had 5000 units for launch day which is a lot for a small gaming community and a high price.

Congrats are in order me thinks :D..

On the contrary, I applaud Sony for not suffering for the same forecasting/logistic problems the MS did at it's launch.

Hey cool the hypocrites are at it again. . . .

The 360 outsells the PS3 by 50% in the US and it's "Stock shortage", they don't sell out of a paltry 220000 units on launch and it's "careful stock management". Make up your minds will you.

Pot and kettle fanboys . . .

Doobi that paltry 220000 is way way higher than either of the other consoles managed to sell...

Credit where credit is due

I am still amazed at how many PS3 fans dont even own that console... kidney waiting in line at the clinic for a donation perhaps?

Not sure I get what you're talking about with the 360 outselling the PS3? The PS3 sold more units in the US for it's launch than the 360 did at launch.

I don't get it... they sold more units than the other consoles at launch, but you're calling it a "paltry" 220000 units?

The 360 outsold the PS3 in Dec 2006, Jan 2007, Feb 2007.

You are comparing launch sales and he is comparing month 2 month sales..

With 4 months to build stock, against two other consoles that released simultaneously on 3 continents? For the darling console of Europe? On an install base of 100 million units? It shipped it sold, but it didn't sell out?

In the launch window, basically the month after launch when there was no stock, in the US the console shipped over a million units. The European market is 50% bigger and the PS2/Playstation brand dominates far more than in the US. Yet they're sitting with stock. It's still early days, lets see at the end of the month?

Consider that the Xbox didn't get onto store shelves for 5 months after the 360 launch. Demand only died down after 5 million units had been sold. Here demand has died down after ~300000 units.

basically, yes Kudo's to Sony for having stock, but maybe that's not a good thing.
