Hey Guys!

Now before you flame me for assuming what my post is going to be please read carefully.
I am looking into buying a console, i am very much into PC gaming atm and i still love it but i'm looking for something more "social" if you know what i mean. And i'm kind of sick of always having to check compatibility and having to worry if a game will run smoothly.

Sooooo before you fanboys start making recommendations, please keep this in mind:

1) I love FPS (First person shooter) games and even tho i hate not playing with a mouse and keyboard i am willing to make a slight adjustment, but for console i will probably start playing more racing and soccer games. Keep in mind available titles on the platform. i like BFBC2 btw :P aaaand MW if you really have to.

2) Prices? i'm a complete noob with consoles so are there any price differences in games? Also release dates. i know PC is always waaaay behind.

3) HD. One upside for me about PS3 is the blue-ray drive, even tho i might not even use it for now. but i am going to be playing on my samsung 21.5" screen (1920x1080) so i want to be able to do true full (1080p) HD thanks

4) I've read reviews of spec comparisons and overall the PS3 wins, but i've also been hearing that some games lag on PS3?! hope thats not true.

5) This is not console specific, or maybe it is, what do i know. my current internet connection is 384 mweb uncapped. and currently with BFBC2 its been working fine on my PC. will this be okay for console?

6) Accessories. price comparisons for extra consoles and whatever. also what you get with the box when you buy them. is it worth the prize? you can provide links if you don't want to type it out :)

I know this is a lot to ask for but i would very much appreciate it and i think others will as well.

Thanks every!
Vrede

I went PS3 for the Blu Ray player and its not M$. Not too worried about exclusive titles

I love FPS but my PC is too old (6yrs) to enjoy the new games. Got BFBC2 from Musica for R200 and love it on my PS3. It took me only 20minutes to get use to the control. I play on my 384 Telkom line with no problem. (Ironic that with PS3 we play on UK servers but without any lag).

As for game lag, have yet to see it.

As for price, well it was cheaper to buy the PS3 than a new gaming rig. Since I also buy only originals, the titles can be a bit more but I don't mind. I also buy a lot on PSN (Playstation Network) and pick up titles for under R100.

Accessories: Well it has the MOVE. Can't wait to get it and R.U.S.E. - heard its awesome

PS3 man.

1) Blu-ray player
2) Free online play
3) Better exclusive titles: God of War, Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, Metal Gear Solid, inFamous, Resistance, Killzone, LittleBigPlanet, Gran Turismo, Demon's Souls, MotorStorm, Twisted Metal, The Last Guardian etc
4) Cheap hardware combos. I paid R620 for a Dualshock 3 controller & Blu-ray remote a few months ago. Even better deals nowadays with a game thrown in.
5) For R4299 you can get a 320gb PS3, second Dualshock 3 controller and FIFA 11 from BT Games

In order of the questions you have put forward:
1.If you coming from a k&m pc setup the Xbox feels much more natural and comfortable so the transition to ultimate fraggin is taken care of somewhat
2.Xbox - R1599 (Game) PS3 - R2999
3.PS3 Bluray wins of course but i do believe the Xbox can handle HD content somewhat
4.Although the PS3 is more powerful, games have been looking marginally better on the Xbox according to many. I haven't heard of the lagging issue before, so don't sweat it
5.Cant help you much here as i have no issues on either of my consoles on a 4 meg line
6.Not too sure again what you asking for but i do know the new Xbox Slim's are coming bundled with the Kinect and the price is pretty decent

I have both consoles and honestly can't choose between the 2. If its hardcore gaming you looking for then go for the Xbox what with Xbox Live being the dominant community. It might be worth asking friends what they have and get that so you can meet them on online. If you looking for a console with some media skills the PS3 is the way forward.

I hope my noob comments helps :)

This.

Media - PS3
Gaming - Xbox

Since you're into FPS, you'll find it a lot more pleasant on the Xbox. The PS3's controller feels awkward when playing FPS games, mainly due to where the analogue sticks are located. The feedback on the rear trigger buttons is also better on the Xbox - it feels more 'springy'.

If you're buying the console primarily for gaming, you may also want to read up on the exclusives available for both machines. If you can, try and actually play some of the exclusives because your experience may differ to that of a reviewer.

I disagree about FPS's being more comfortable with the Xbox 360's controller. I hate that thing for any game genre. It's heavy, the battery pack gets in the way of the ergonomics and I prefer the Playstation's analog stick layout. Far quicker to use D-pad functions whilst moving imo. Plus Tekken 6 sucks on Xbox using that ridiculous D-pad.

I also have MWEB's 384 uncapped service. Online gaming works ok with sports, racing and most fps games. I haven't had much luck with Uncharted 2, Red Dead Redemption & Metal Gear Online unfortunately. PC gaming seems to require less bandwidth to play online, as I also game on PC a fair amount and I can play pretty much anything online.

I suspect you'll be buying a console for similar reasons that I bought one for: to play games you can't experience properly on PC. All you should be caring about are the games. And the PS3 has all the best typical console games, many of which are exclusives. Whether you want the best fighting, racing, sporting, platforming or shooting experience possible on a console, the PS3 has you covered. The Xbox however falls short on some fronts.

Personally, I couldn't live without LittleBigPlanet, Gran Turismo & Uncharted. I strongly recommend you familiarise yourself with those games before deciding which console you're going to lump yourself with. Oh and the ICO & Shadow of the Colossus Collection comes out early next year with the next game from the developers, The Last Guardian, later in the year. Rockstar is also producing a PS3 exclusive game called Agent due for release next year. Don't miss these games bro.

I have a xbox 360 and bfbc2. I have a 4mb line and all my games are played on uk servers and I NEVER get lag. Maybe now and then but in bad company and medal of honor none what so ever.

I would vote for xbox because I have one. though I never used a ps3 before.

I'm not sure if the graphics on xbox 360 is better? I did see a comparison when they compared Mafia 2 in xbox 360 vs ps3 vs pc. PC was far surperior but obviouslly it comes at a price. Xbox 360 was MUCH better than ps3. So I don't really know how ps3 performs interm of graphics in general. It could be the game developers.

My vote goes to xbox 360 cause its cheap and has many games cause of its maker Microsoft.

EDIT: Ohh and on console don't worry you won't get lag and the graphics is similar to pc graphics when played on a Full HD tv/monitor. :)

Without giving anyone reason to start flaming this thread, I will make a very simple statement:

I have all three consoles. I use my Wii to keep my fiance busy, I use my Playstation to watch a few BR movies worth watching, I use my Xbox for everything else.

You have heard it all before: Free online/Better Controller/RRoD/etc... If you are serious about playing games, get an Xbox and ignore all the fanboy ranting. More importantly, if you are serious about playing games online, then definitely get an Xbox.

However, someone will quote me on this and start ripping my post to shreds. It's really up to you.

As for quality and quantity, the PS3 has it all. If you are going to never use your PC for gaming at all, then Xbox 360 is a good console to have. If you are, then don't bother with it. On the other hand (imo) the PS3 has much better exclusives. The Xbox has.. well Gears and Forza? It also depends what you have played on PC so far, since that will decide on which games you will buy on Xbox and when you will get bored of it due to the lack of exclusives (this is happening to me).

Hey Guys!

Now before you flame me for assuming what my post is going to be please read carefully...

I'm afraid this is what will become of this thread, a flaming frenzy. :o

It's really difficult to choose one. Both sides will give good reason to buy PS3 or a Xbox360.

i would say the best thing to do is play on both consoles before you decide. if you can, play the same game on both, eg. BFBC2 on xbox then on PS3. play until you feel comfortable with each controller. i feel the PS3 controller is a bit of a fail in certain games, but same goes for the Xbox controller.. the controller in the end is the deciding factor i think, cause thats what you use to interact with. imo if the PS could have the xbox controller, it would be the perfect console :-) each one has its ups and downs, although you can do much more with the PS. also, look at what each console has got to offer for the future. the move on the PS is really going to pick up and looks awesome!!

If you going to play online the Xbox is the way to go.

mmmig, any reason as to why you say this?? PSN is free to play online where Xbox Live , from what if heard, is going to be priced @ R599 per year. correct me if i'm wrong please

Both platforms have plenty of both - its the exclusives and how well the games run on each platform that determines whether you should buy it. Generally games run better on the Xbox.

2) Prices? i'm a complete noob with consoles so are there any price differences in games? Also release dates. i know PC is always waaaay behind.

The cheapest XBox is dirt cheap, but the elite xbox and the PS3 are the same price. As far as I know, PS3 games tend to be more expensive though.

3) HD. One upside for me about PS3 is the blue-ray drive, even tho i might not even use it for now. but i am going to be playing on my samsung 21.5" screen (1920x1080) so i want to be able to do true full (1080p) HD thanks

1920 x 1080, by definition, is 1080P and thus high def.

4) I've read reviews of spec comparisons and overall the PS3 wins, but i've also been hearing that some games lag on PS3?! hope thats not true.

it wins in theory, but because the Xbox is so much easier to develop for, games run much better on it.

5) This is not console specific, or maybe it is, what do i know. my current internet connection is 384 mweb uncapped. and currently with BFBC2 its been working fine on my PC. will this be okay for console?
Yes.

You'll have more options with a PS3 because Sony exercises less control over third party accessories than Microsoft does. But first party controllers cost a similar amount.

Some individual game graphical comparisons:
Modern Warfare 2
Mafia 2

It's interesting that the Xbox 360 advocates don't actually give any real reason for their statements.

I read things like 'Blu-ray playback, free online play, better exclusives' etc from the PS3 crowd, which are actual reasons to get a PS3. Then the Xbox guys say 'online play is better, I have sixteen consoles and I only play on the Xbox' etc. What kind of reasoning is that? Please explain why you don't game on your PS3 and why the PSN is not totally awesome for online play? PSN also has a friends system, playing online is pretty hassle free, the PSN store has loads of awesome stuff and making friends online happens as you play. What is missing from this experience?

I'm glad everyone's enjoying Bad Company 2 so much. Why is it worth singling out? It's available on PS3 and Xbox, much like a bunch of other good FPS's. Also, the guy said he's primarily a PC gamer. Imo the game is far more enjoyable on PC, and the upcoming Black Ops for PC has online servers from MWEB. I'd say he should stick to playing multiplatform shooters on PC.

Standing from the outside looking in so to speak it's very easy.

If you're going to play FPS 90% of the time, the PC is king. Controllers do not come remotely close to the keyboard and mouse combo. (Only other option is this http://www.penguinunited.com/Playstation+3/Eagle+Eye+Converter+for+PlayStation+3.html)

If you just purely want to play games the xbox wil fit the job.

If you want to play games, watch HD movies and do everything else etc, then the PS3 fits the job.
PSN is free and a lot of controllers like a Logitech G27 wheel combo works with a PS3

Price wise PC will always be expensive but the best if money is not such a problem

xbox value for money is not so good. 4GB console is a complete joke. 250gig goes for +- R3199.

PS3 320gig goes for +- R3899

Blu-ray players alone cost anything from R1500 up. So putting all the facts and figures together the PS3 is the best all rounder for what you're getting.

Hope this helps.
