PS3 vs XBOX360

If I was in the market for a console (I'm not) I would get a PS3 because I want games like Uncharted, MGS & GT.

Like what some people have already mentioned, this an age old argument that really just ends being a matter of preference.
Some things to note:

Graphics aren't really everything, you get over/used to them and sometimes it depends on the amount of effort that was put into developing the game.
Some games look better on Xbox even though the PS3 is "more" powerful. Sometimes the difference is so small that it becomes silly when trying to compare them.

Online play- try relate both console experiences to your current PC experience. Go to a friend who's already using the service etc...

Controller - Another one of those things you get used and ultimately prefer over time. I come from a PC background, wasn't a big fan of PS2. Had a logitec PS2-like controller for Fifa PC etc. Must say that once I got a hold of the Xbox controller, I was hooked. I just find it more comfortable.

Blu Ray/Media - PS3 can play Blu-Ray + the media center setup works well, plus you can upgrade your own HDD. Get a 500GB+ and a remote, then you set. Apparently the Slim will also get a 3D(meh) compatibility firmware update. So now you can even watch your porn in 3D, at no extra cost! Prices on blu-ray players has also come down, think I saw one at Game/Makro going for R999.
Both systems can stream media.

Cost of Ownership - I find that PS3 games are somewhat more expensive, even 2nd-hand and not so widely available. Xbox games are like those crack-a$$ h0es at the corner of the streets of Sunny Side. The PSN is free, Live isn't. Xbox HDD are more expensive than going out to buy a generic 2.5" HDD for your PS3. The rest is more/less on par.

Exclusivity/Gaming experience - Appreciate the fact that both companies are going to try outdo each other when it comes to this dept. and both have released some good titles. Tekken & MGS used to be exclusive to PS3 but are now also on Xbox, with ME2 on Xbox going to PS3. Tried the Move once and it was pretty cool, but no different from the Wii(at least that's how it felt). Haven't tried the Kinetic so can't say if that's any better.

All in all, I'd say follow your gut. Try/borrow and see what you like. I'm an Xbox owner and have played on the PS3 quite extensively(learnt it once from a friend when he went overseas for a good 6months). Currently, my Xbox is at my nephew's place, my PC rig is sitting there with like 1 or 2 games(that I never play) and I'm thinking of buying a PS3 and turn it into a media center(instead of building an HTPC). Just listen to your heart my son...listen to your heart....

With regards to the online gaming, I'm playing PS3 via 348k and dont have any real problems (Deamon Souls and Red Dead Redemption), Just don't try before 8 with Mweb's shaping.

Graphically, PS3 is supposedly better (Final Fanstasy X was raved about for the better PS3 graphics) but unless your sitting two monitors, an xbox on one and PS3 on the other its not that big a deal. Have a good TV\monitor will prob make a bigger difference.

Fan of the PSN network, and on its downtime your PS3 can contribute to some supercomputer work in the US (do you bit for science and buy a PS3).

Ah, the age old fight on which console is better.
This thread will probably go to about 500 pages and then there will be debate on the PS3 being compared to a R100k media system.
The PS3 is a versatile system which can play games and is a pretty good media system. The xbox, well... just plays games. You need to ask your self what you want from the console.
I remember the xbots ragging on that wifi on the PS3 is pretty useless. But seems like the new xbox slim now comes with wifi....
Multi-platform games are generally better on the xbox (if you look really close and squint your eyes), but the exclusives are where the consoles shine. PS3 with LBP, Uncharted series, God Of War, Demon Souls, Killzone, etc, and xbox with Halo Series, Gears of War Series, Fable.
Tried using the xbox controller once. Make sure you dont drop it on your foot. It might break your toe.
If you want to play Halo & Gears of War, get a xbox. For everything else, get a PS3.
/looks around to see if Dolby, timgaul or IAP is around

Don't do it. Both the PS3 and Xbox are severely limited as media players. They do fine if you have no alternative, but can't beat an HTPC.

:erm:

The XBOX is just as good a media centre as the PS3. I stream movies/series/music/pictures over my wireless network from my PC often.

The possible interactions in ME2 as a result of certain ME save games can be found with Google in seconds. Missing out on a little picture frame in the Captain's Quarters didn't mean much to me. In any case, I'm not that much of a ME2 fan. I enjoyed the game and since finishing it have no intention of ever touching it again.

I'm a PC gamer. It was my only platform before I got my PS3 this year and I still play lots of PC games. I wouldn't say there's much of a 'transition' to make. It takes a few seconds to get the hang of shooting and changing the camera with analog sticks. I would say the PS3 is easier to pick up and play. Every time I'm playing Xbox at a friends house I'm constantly dealing with the damn prompts to sign in before I can load a game (granted my best friend's Xbox is offline). The PSN stays the hell out of your way on PS3 and the online play is free, much like on PC.

Games like LittleBigPlanet, Ratchet & Clank, God of War, Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid 4, inFamous, GT5, Killzone, Resistance & The Last Guardian are must haves. What's the Xbox 360's response? Forza, Gears, Crackdown, Fable and Halo? Where's the epic adventure quest? The hack 'n slash? The artsy masterpiece? What does Xbox have compared to Ratchet & Clank and the Sly Cooper Collection?

My point is that the Xbox 360 does not have a complete catalogue of games. What is biased is to recommend a platform that can't provide for his every whim.

@OP

Ignore these sorts of posts... they tend to be 1-sided highly opinion-based on the posters choice of gaming

This is a post worth noting, see how the poster actually compares the pro's with the con's of both consoles and still lets you decide in the end... +100 madtza

ROFL! I see the droids are trying their hardest to gain more support? That old thread lost it's meaning after page 50...I remember the good ol' FBF wars
Seriously though, start up with the rubbish fanboi ramblings again that got the first thread locked and this one will head the same way (read: not realizing both consoles are actually perfectly fine for gaming/media etc)

Thats why there aren't any more xbots around these parts any more

Right straight up I'm a xbox fan, just going to put it out there. My reasons for going xbox as to your question:

1) Online gaming is major bonus of the xbox as for any console, but the gaming community on the xbox is just awesome, with xbox live coming to s.a your 384 line should be perfect, Iv got a 384 line via a wireless link from a guy on the same plot as us, so throughput is not great and it still works.

2) Gaming on the xbox is awesome the controller to me is just perfect, the ps3 controller I personally don't like.

3) Cost wise its not bad like 2399 from incredible for a 4gb model and later if u want u can buy a 250gb hdd or use a 16gb usb

My final report is yes ps3 for br is awesome I agree but for xbox 360 hd, gaming and the community is just awesome the slims have no problems and are as quiet as a ps3.

This is my post so flamming my reviews just shows your stupidity to accept others comments

Going to drop in my 2 cents too...

I have a PS3 and I love it, I would be lying if I said I don't want an Xbox too, and might get one soon. If anything it'll be for Gears of War and Fable.

The most important thing I think is using both before buying, see which one clicks with you. Go with the first impression you get with the system.
If you want a graphics powerhouse PC will always win, but consoles add a dimension to PC + Gamepad combo can offer. Especially when you have a couple of mates around and you all enjoy jamming something together. PC just doesn't cut it there. The other big benefit I find with consoles is the beauty of just popping in the game and it works. No tweaking of settings, nada. Jump in and play.

But I'll go back to initial point, try them all out, and see which one works for you. No console is worse than the next one. They all are very impressive pieces of kit. And you won't regret it.
Good luck!

i got RED controllers with my PS3 :D

btw, what sound system would one use when you only have a PS3 and LCD tv , but dont want to use the lame TV speakers??

Well if u ONLY have the ps3 and lcd then what else do u suggest u use ?

That thread was pretty fun. It could have gone on for ages and many more pages. :)
Anyways, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and what they think about the other console. As long as there is no personal attacks. Answers will always be opinion based unless you can prove otherwise.
Unless you would like to base it on sales? Americans support xbox, Japanese support PS3. So the only unbiased region would be EMEAA which xbox was in the lead before and now PS3 is in the lead by 1.4m consoles.
xbots are not around bcos they don't really have much to argue about. They used to keep harping about the price differential between the 2. Now it doesnt seem like too much of an issue.

But is it as useless as the PS3's wifi?
ROFL. Explain your logic here. Hopefully you are not going to go on about G vs N?

Lol they both fail as media centers, have you ever tried a popcornhour, egreat, wdtv hd, xtreamer etc...

As far as non-blu ray goes...
No need for re-muxing, transcoding or any of that other stuff that requires you to do any work besides dumping the file on a share or external drive.

On the blu-ray 3d movies front...
If you can afford a 3d lcd tv then you can afford a better blu-ray 3d player than the ps3, blu-ray players are not all born equal, picture quality does change between players.
How many people would actually buy blu-rays given the fact that people talk about streaming which equals downloads which in turn... wait for it includes hd movies !

People who own ps3 and xbox 360's that I know talk about one thing.. which one has the games they want.

All these mines better than yours people, just grow up and stop talking about specs only.

"Rawr my hard drives bigger" <-------- do you need all the space ?
"Rawr I can use third party peripherals" <-------- do you or would you want to ?
"Xbox live !!!!" <---------- Will you use it ?
"Kinect !!!"< ---------- Will you use it ?

I'll go and say the whole "grow up" speech but well, chances are I've wasted my time typing this because its going to fall on deaf ears anyways.

if its not ps3 v.s xbox, its amd v.s intel, apple v.s microsoft, nvidia v.s ati (amd), apple v.s htc, bmw v.s mercedes, turbo v.s supercharger. all those things serve the same purpose in their way. go with what you feel is best for you.

I have both go for the ps3 more features and the graphics about the same though I do prefer the xbox controller the ps3 controller seems like a knock off the 360 controller well just thats the way I feel .FPS is also better in my view on the 360

Gears Of War and Halo one of my most favorite games then again there is GOD OF WAR and Uncharted 1/2 .
It really is up to you.
If it were up to me go for the ps3 simply because you get more bang for your buck
